Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Representation of gas hydrate fracture migration system by seismic

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi, 2021
The South China Sea is one of the four major offshore oil and gas accumulation centers in the world. Many oil and gas fields and hydrate deposits have been found on the northern slope of the South China Sea.

Geology and evolution of the Cortes de Pallás diapir (Eastern Iberia)

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2020
This paper presents an 1:20,000 geological map and cross-sections of the Cortes de Pallás diapir (eastern Iberia). This structure is located at the junction of the Iberian Chain and the Betic Cordillera, in the northernmost part of the eastern Prebetic ...

Geochemical behaviors of HPHT gas reservoirs in the Yinggehai Basin and the efficient gas accumulation mode in its diapir flanks

open access: yesNatural Gas Industry B, 2015
The Yinggehai Basin is a Cenozoic high-temperature and high-pressure basin where diapir and thermal fluid activities were so strong that the deeply-sourced natural gas accumulated in the shallow traps in the diapir structures.

Diapirism and topography [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1992
SUMMARY A new numerical technique using markers and a deformable Lagrangian mesh is used to study the deformation of the surface above a rising diapir. This method allows modelling of a free-surface boundary in a self-consistent way. The method makes it possible to investigate many different problems with non-regular geometry.

Seismic Characteristics of Mud Diapir in Song Hong Basin, Offshore Vietnam

open access: yesIraqi Geological Journal, 2021
Seismic characteristics of mud diapir has been investigate over an area of 3900 km2, located in the central part of Song Hong basin, using four 2D seismic lines. There are six mud diapirs and three mud pipes have been documented.

Diapiric growth within an Early Jurassic rift basin: The Tazoult salt wall (central High Atlas, Morocco) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The central High Atlas (Morocco) constitutes a diapiric province that hosts a complex array of elongated diapirs and minibasins that formed during the Lower Jurassic rift of the Atlas Basin.

Boninite and Harzburgite from Leg 125 (Bonin-Mariana Forearc): A Case Study of Magma Genesis during the Initial Stages of Subduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Holes drilled into the volcanic and ultrabasic basement of the Izu-Ogasawara and Mariana forearc terranes during Leg 125 provide data on some of the earliest lithosphere created after the start of Eocene subduction in the Western Pacific.

A New Methodology Combining Geophysical Calculations and Geological Analysis to Identify and Characterize Carrier Systems for Vertical Hydrocarbon Migration in the Central Diapir Zone of the Yinggehai Basin, China

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
To understand hydrocarbon migration in terms of the mechanisms, accumulations and exploration targets, it is essential to correctly identify and characterize the carrier systems that control fluid-migration history and oil/gas reservoir formation.
