Abstract The distribution of strain within and around gravitationally produced diapiric structures was studied through the use of experimental models which were deformed in a large-capacity centrifuge. A new method of model construction was developed which is equivalent to building the model of initially square 1-mm elements.

Diapiric Structures on the Campeche Shelf and Slope, Western Gulf of Mexico

Recently collected seismic reflection profiles reveal numerous emerged and buried diapiric structures along the Campeche Shelf and slope, south of 20° N. latitude. Slope diapirs have steep sides, relatively flat tops, and a subsurface reflector which may be an expression of caprock.

Prediction of the internal structure of salt diapirs - is that possible?

We explore this question using the example of salt structures in Northern Germany. The salt mines in the North German basin are among the best explored in the world. The question now arises as to whether findings on the internal structure of these salt structures also allow conclusions to be drawn about previously unexplored diapirs.
