Complementary feeding, dietary diversity, and diarrhea morbidity in some rice-growing regions of Kenya: insights for targeted nutrition interventions

open access: yesWorld Nutrition
Background Diarrhea and malnutrition remain major contributors to child morbidity and mortality in Kenya, particularly among children under five. Inadequate complementary feeding, poor dietary diversity, and weak hygiene practices exacerbate these risks,

Pathogenicity of human and porcine intestinal spirochetes in one-day-old specific-pathogen-free chicks: an animal model of intestinal spirochetosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
One-day-old chicks were infected orally with two strains of weakly hemolytic spirochetes isolated from a human and a pig with intestinal spirochetosis. These spirochetosis both colonized birds, attached end-on to their cecal enterocytes, induced watery ...

Controlling 3D Contractility via Engineered Fibrous Hydrogel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tunable composite contractile assembly (CCA) is developed that can permit or resist contraction without changing cell‐adhesion and density, unlike collagen whose inherent coupling of these ECM cues limits its use as a platform in contractility studies.

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Unbalanced Macronutrient Intakes, Multiple Micronutrient Inadequacies, and Diarrhea Underscore Low-Height-for-Age in Indigenous Panamanian Preschool Children

open access: yesCurrent Developments in Nutrition
Background: In remote indigenous Panamanian subsistence farming communities, poor diet, diarrhea, and Ascaris may have seasonally distinct contributions to high rates of stunting in preschool children.

Self‐Powered Permeable Electronic Dressing for Exudate Management, Electrostimulation and Drug Delivery in Chronic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a self‐powered permeable electronic dressing (SPED) that synergistically integrates exudate management, electrical stimulation, and on‐demand drug delivery. The dressing effectively absorbs exudate while demonstrating potent antibacterial activity and accelerated tissue regeneration in diabetic mouse models, thereby promoting ...

Effects and Microbiota Changes Following Oral Lyophilized Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Capsules in Canine with Chronic Enteropathy After Parvovirus Infection: Case Report

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
(1) Background: Chronic enteropathy (CE) in canines is associated with persistent microbiome dysbiosis, and conventional therapies (e.g., special diets, antimicrobials, and immunosuppressive drugs) are sometimes ineffective.
