Serum Uric Acid Levels in Older Adults: Associations With Clinical Outcomes and Implications for Reference Intervals in Those Aged 70 Years and Over

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Reports have linked both high and low serum uric acid (SUA) levels to adverse health outcomes. This study aimed to establish a reference interval for SUA in older adults and assessed its association with clinically relevant outcomes in relatively healthy, community‐dwelling individuals aged ≥70 years old.

State of Left Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Patients with Postinfarction Cardiosclerosis and Obesity

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2014
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of mortality worldwide, the main contribution to its structure belongs to ischemic heart disease. One of the major factors for the progression of ischemic heart disease is obesity.

Impaired endothelial function of the retinal vasculature in hypertensive patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
<p><b>Background and Purpose:</b> Arterial hypertension constitutes a central factor in the pathogenesis of stroke. We examined endothelial function of the retinal vasculature as a model of the cerebral circulation.</p> <p ...

Aqueously Upcycled Lignin with Emergent Tribonegativity for Skin‐Integrated Triboelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueously upcycled lignin is transformed into a printable ink that self‐assembles into a nanotextured surface during printing with the highest reported biopolymer‐based tribonegativity. The resulting skin‐integrated triboelectric sensor enables high‐fidelity cardiovascular monitoring and objective mental workload classification, demonstrating a ...

Adiponectin through its biphasic serum level is a useful biomarker during transition from diastolic dysfunction to systolic dysfunction - an experimental study

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2012
Background Adiponectin is reported to relate with cardiovascular diseases, we sought to examine whether adiponectin is associated with disease progression of heart failure from hypertension in rats in comparison with other known biomarkers and ...

Ultrasound in Women's Health: Mechanisms, Applications, and Emerging Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
As healthcare moves toward decentralization, ultrasound technologies are evolving from strictly imaging tools in clinical settings into versatile diagnostic and therapeutic platforms, with growing roles addressing women's health needs. This review highlights how ultrasound's underlying physical mechanisms can be harnessed to reduce disparities in women'

Isoproterenol-Induced Cardiac Diastolic Dysfunction in Mice: A Systems Genetics Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2019
We examined an isoproterenol heart failure model across a panel of diverse inbred strains of mice, the Hybrid Mouse Diversity Panel (HMDP), using left atrial (LA) and lung weights as well as echocardiogram parameters as surrogates for cardiac diastolic ...

Changes in left atrial deformation in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: Evaluation by vector velocity imaging. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
OBJECTIVES: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) represents a generalized myopathic process affecting both ventricular and atrial myocardium. We assessed the global and regional left atrial (LA) function and its relation to left ventricular (LV) mechanics ...

Adhesive Double‐Network Granular Organogel E‐Skin

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a double‐network granular organogel adhesive for electronic skin, overcoming adhesion and strength trade‐offs. It provides reversible, robust bonding and ionic conductivity, enabling wearable and soft robotic e‐skin. Thanks to the e‐skin adhesive, a soft robotic trunk can recognize touch, temperature, humidity, and acidity.

Assessment of left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions in severely malnourished children

open access: yesEgyptian Pediatric Association Gazette, 2019
Background Malnourished children endure many changes in body composition and lose heart and skeletal muscle mass. Diastolic dysfunction is one of the major causes of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
