Diatom-inspired templates for 3D replication: natural diatoms versus laser written artificial diatoms

Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, 2013
The diatoms are ubiquitous, exist in large numbers and show a great diversity of features on their porous silica structures. Therefore, they inspire the fabrication of nanostructured templates for nanoimprint processes (NIL), where large structured areas with nanometer precision are required.

Diatom-diatom reactive scattering in hypercylindrical coordinates

International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 2009
We present a combination of hyperspherical and cylindrical coordinates to describe diatom–diatom reactions in which one diatom bond is nonreactive. This hybrid system of coordinates is termed hypercylindrical. It naturally leads to a description of the reaction as an atom–diatom reaction embedded within a larger polyatomic framework.

Semiclassical theory for diatom-diatom collisions

Chemical Physics Letters, 1983
Abstract A semiclassical approach to diatom-diatom collisions is presented. The method involves a classical treatment of the translational and rotational motion of both molecules. The vibrational degrees of freedom are quantized using a Morse oscillator approximation. The method is used to evaluate the accuracy of previous calculations based upon the

Diatoms and homicide

Forensic Science International, 1998
Six illustrative cases of homicidal drowning are reported in which the diatom test for drowning was a useful adjunct to the medicolegal investigation of death. In all six cases, diatom frustules were recovered from the femoral bone marrow. In five cases, diatoms extracted from the bone marrow were compared with diatoms obtained from samples of putative

Vibration-translation exchange in diatom-diatom collisions

Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 1991
A general and computationally efficient (analytical) approach evaluating the transition probabilities for vibration-translation (VT) exchange, involving higher vibrational states, in diatomic gases is presented. The role of the slope of the repulsive part of the intermolecular potential on the transition probability is also investigated.
