Differential Impacts of Proxy Archives on Paleoclimate Reconstruction Performance

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Reconstructing past climates is challenging because pre‐instrumental observations are geographically sparse and proxy records are noisy; data assimilation offers one approach to address these limitations. Although such reconstructions are now widespread, the extent to which different proxy archives determine their accuracy remains unclear.

Measurements of the Size and Physical Properties of Marine Particles Using Atomic Force Microscopy: Implications for Marine Biogeochemical Cycles

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Particle size and physical properties such as stiffness and adhesiveness affect sinking velocity and flux in the ocean, yet conventional two‐dimensional measurements lack accuracy and mechanical information. In this study, we applied atomic force microscopy (AFM) to quantify three‐dimensional size and physical properties of marine particles ...

Beyond the Oxo‐Wall: Synthesis and Reactivity of a Six‐Coordinate Formally CoIV‐Oxo Complex

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 41, 5 October 2026.
We present the first example of a six‐coordinate formally Co(IV)‐oxo complex, [Co(TQA)(O)(OH)]+ (1), which exists as an admixture of CoIV‐oxo and CoIII‐oxyl resonance structures. Complex 1 is capable of performing oxygen atom transfer reactions and abstracting moderately strong hydrogen atoms at rates faster than other characterized CoIV‐oxo compounds.

High‐ and Low‐Latitude Insolation Forcing Drives the Half‐Precession Cycle in Winter Arctic Sea Ice

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract The half‐precession cycle is a key climatic signal in global climate system, linking high‐ and low‐latitude climate variability and bridging orbital‐ and millennial‐scale climate changes. While it characterizes tropical insolation, its origin in high‐latitude climate records remains unclear. Based on a transient climate simulation spanning the

Comparing Homodimer and Homotrimer Noncovalent Complexes Involving Coinage Metals: A Theoretical Perspective

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
In this study, the ability of M2 clusters (M = Cu, Ag, and Au) to form noncovalent homodimers/homotrimers has been evaluated at the RI‐PBE0‐D4/def2‐TZVPD level of theory. The results have been complemented with QTAIM, NCIplot, and EDA analyses, which helped to shed light on the physical nature of these unconventional noncovalent contacts. In this study,
