Achievement of Transition Metal Chalcogenides/Oxides in Hydrogen Production by Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs)/oxides have shown great application potential in seawater splitting for hydrogen generation due to their adjustable electronic properties, abundant active sites, and excellent catalytic performance. ABSTRACT Under the impetus of global “dual carbon” goals, green hydrogen has become a key component of the future ...

Light Manipulation by Single Cells: The Case of Diatoms

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, 2016
Diatoms are ubiquitous monocellular microalgae, responsible for about 20–25% of the global oxygen produced by photosynthesis. Living in environments where sunlight is not so easily accessible, evolution shaped diatoms in order to exploit light with high ...

Diatom-Specific Oligosaccharide and Polysaccharide Structures Help to Unravel Biosynthetic Capabilities in Diatoms

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2015
Diatoms are marine organisms that represent one of the most important sources of biomass in the ocean, accounting for about 40% of marine primary production, and in the biosphere, contributing up to 20% of global CO2 fixation.

Co‐Catalyst/Semiconductor Interface Coupling Design for Efficient Solar‐Driven Photocatalysis

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Interfacial coupling strength is proposed as a unifying descriptor governing charge‐transfer behavior in co‐catalyst/semiconductor photocatalytic systems. This review establishes a coupling‐strength‐guided framework that correlates interface engineering strategies with charge transport pathways, electronic structure regulation, and photocatalytic ...

PondNet – towards a global network of experiments on the effects of climate change on aquatic ecosystems

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Global change is reshaping the distribution of biodiversity and the functioning of ecosystems. Predicting the long‐term consequences of such changes remains a challenge due to a need for a clear understanding of the mechanisms underpinning ecosystem‐level responses, as well as the role of geographical and environmental contingencies.

Stochastic and deterministic processes influencing mountain mire diatom communities across spatial scales

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Understanding how deterministic and stochastic processes influence the shape of microorganism community assembly across different spatial scales is essential for disentangling biodiversity patterns. Mires are nutrient‐poor and heterogeneous wetlands that form isolated habitats supporting highly diverse diatom assemblages, particularly in mountainous ...

Activating and Stabilizing Lattice Oxygen in Spinel NiCo2O4 through F, Mn Dual Doping for Rechargeable Zinc–Air Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study exploited the substitution doping of Mn and F in NiCo2O4 to activate and stabilize lattice oxygen, achieving a stable synergistic effect between AEM and LOM to enhance the intrinsic activity of the catalyst. The outstanding bifunctional properties enable its application as an anode catalyst in zinc–air batteries.

Single Atom‐Modified TiO2‐Based Catalysts for Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting: From Fundamentals to Future Prospects

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Hydrogen and oxygen generated from water splitting process by photoelectrocatalysis of single atom modified TiO2 based photoelectrocatalysts. The accelerating demand for green hydrogen has intensified the development of efficient and durable photoelectrocatalysts (PECs) for sustainable water splitting.

Environmental Factors, Not Biotic Competitive Interactions, Drive the Relative Abundance of Diatoms and Chlorophyta in the Coastal Areas of the Beibu Gulf: Evidence From 18S rDNA Metabarcoding and Partial Least Squares‐Path Modeling Analysis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Diatoms and Chlorophyta are two major phyla of phytoplankton in marine ecosystems. The quantitative detection of the population succession and the interaction between them in natural marine ecosystems is a key challenge that ecologists face.
