Polar decomposition consists of representing an arbitrary Mueller matrix with a product of three simpler matrices, but, since these matrices do not commute, the result depends on the order in which they are multiplied. We show that the six possible decompositions can be classified into two families and that one of these families always leads to ...

Mueller Matrix Polarimeter with Diattenuation Error Calibration Approach
2015A calibration algorithm for the Mueller matrix dual-rotating retarder polarimeter is presented. The Mueller matrix dual-rotating retarder polarimeter is composed by two rotating retarders and two fixed polarizers with the final purpose of retrieving the polarization properties of a sample.

Polarization adaptive optics for diattenuation aberration correction
Optica Imaging Congress 2024 (3D, AOMS, COSI, ISA, pcAOP)We propose the use of optical skyrmions as a way to probe an optical system and provide metrics that characterise the performance of a polarisation adaptive optics system in the presence of diattenuation aberrations.

Simple polarization measurement of a depolarizing retarder with diattenuation
Applied OpticsA method is proposed to measure the polarimetric parameters of a depolarizing retarder with diattenuation (DRD). The retardance is expressed as a tangent function that recovers its correct sign as opposed to the usual calculation of the retardance through a cosine function. The depolarizing parameters of a pure depolarizer, normally

Transmittance and Diattenuation Measurements Reveal Different Properties of Brain Tissue
Biophotonics Congress: Optics in the Life Sciences Congress 2019 (BODA,BRAIN,NTM,OMA,OMP), 2019We explore the polarization-(in)dependent transmitted light intensity of histological brain sections. Using experimental and simulation studies, we demonstrate that it contains valuable information about nerve fiber architecture and tissue structure.

Characterizing Multilayer, Low Diattenuation Mirrors With a Mueller Matrix Imaging Polarimeter
Optical Interference Coatings, 2007A multilayer, low diattenuation mirror was measured with a Muller matrix imaging polarimeter. The measured diattenuation and absolute reflectance were used to characterize the optical constants of each layer in-situ using a Levenberg-Marguardt optimization.

Optical Metrology and Inspection for Industrial Applications V, 2018
A method for extracting properties of individual components of a retader-linear diattenuator- retarder system is proposed. Since the evaluation performs in noncontact and nondestructive way, this method is applicable to inspect as-produced devices and optics. Example for its application to inspection of the polarizing beamsplitter is presented.
