Revision of the genus Diclidophora Krøyer, 1838 (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae), with the proposal of Macrouridophora n. g.

open access: yesSystematic Parasitology, 1994
The present study re-examines the detailed morphology of the type-species, Diclidophora merlangi (Kuhn, in Nordmann, 1832) Kroyer, 1838, and other Diclidophora species parasitic on gadid fishes: D. denticulata (Olsson, 1876) Price, 1943, D. esmarkii (Th. Scott, 1901) Sproston, 1946, D. luscae (van Beneden & Hesse, 1863) Price, 1943, D.

Neoheterobothrium hirame sp. nov. (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) from the Buccal Cavity Wall of Japanese Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus.

open access: yesFish Pathology, 1999
Neoheterobothrium hirame sp. nov.is described, based on specimens collected from the buccal cavity wall of Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, caught in Wakasa Bay, Japan. The parasite was 14-33 mm in total length, with 4 pairs of clamps on the pedunculated haptor, which was separated from the body proper by a long isthmus.

Egg morphology, larval development and description of the oncomiracidium of Heterobothrium ecuadori (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) parasitising the bullseye pufferfish, Sphoeroides annulatus

open access: yesHelminthologia, 2011
Abstract The present study is the first description of the egg morphology, embryonic development, and time required for hatching, and longevity of the oncomiracidium of Heterobothrium ecuadori (Meserve, 1938) Sproston, 1946. Experiments found that hatching time fluctuated between 7 and 10 days with a mean of 7.5 ± 1 days at 23 ± 1° C ...

Redescription of Flexophora ophidii Prost & Euzet, 1962 (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) from Ophidion barbatum (Ophidiidae) off the Algerian coast, Mediterranean Sea. [PDF]

open access: yesSyst Parasitol, 2020
The diclidophorid Flexophora ophidii Prost & Euzet, 1962, the type- and only species of the genus Flexophora Prost & Euzet, 1962, has never been redescribed neither reported since its original description. The latest lacked a diagnosis of the genus that remains unavailable to date.

Diclidophora luscae (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) in pouting, Trisopterus luscus (Linnaeus, 1758) from the northeast Atlantic; epidemiology, morphology, molecular and phylogenetic analysis

open access: yesParasitology Research, 2022
Diclidophora (Monogenea) species are gill parasites with a stenoxenic specificity occurring only in Gadiformes. Epidemiological, morphological, molecular and phylogenetic studies were performed on 594 Diclidophora specimens collected from 213 Trisopterus luscus captured in the northeast Atlantic off the Portuguese coast during 2012, 2013 and 2020 ...

The Adhesive Mechanisms of Monogenetic Trematodes: the Attachment of Species of the Diclidophoridae to the Gills of Gadoid Fishes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1958
An investigation of the adhesive mechanisms in all nine species of the genusDiclidophorahas shown that there is a common structure consisting of a pair of hinged jaws operated by intrinsic muscles and also by a more powerful extrinsic muscle which acts on a diaphragm to produce a suction pressure that is converted into a clamping action.
