The endogenous nature of social preferences [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents evidence which challenges the view that techniques which are designed to measure the social preferences of subjects can always be accomplished in a nonintrusive manner.

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Gender based prescriptions: evidence for altruism [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyzes the way in which men and women are expected to behave differently in an experimental situation. To do so, we concentrate on a single topic: altruism.

Lessons from History: The Startling Rise to Power of Benito Mussolini [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Rome-based scholar Emilio Iodice examines the circumstances that precipitated the rise of dictator Benito Mussolini in 1920s’ Italy – xenophobia, cultural bigotry, harsh governing measures, a condemned media – and draws the conclusion that some of those ...

Multiband Switchable Microwave Absorbing Metamaterials Based on Reconfigurable Kirigami–Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable metamaterial featuring tunable microwave‐absorbing and load‐bearing performance is proposed. Stretchable kirigami and bistable origami configurations are integrated as actuating components, and the synergistic deformation mechanisms are systematically analyzed.

Quantifying Spatio‐Operational Heterogeneity in Electrochemical Devices via Operando Correlative Neutron and X‐Ray Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heterogeniety in electrochemical systems heavily influences device performance and durability. The study shows unique evidence of spatio‐operational heterogeneity in fuel cells via operando neutron and X‐ray tomography. Large variations in membrane thickness and hydration depend upon location and operating conditions, with implications on membrane ...

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

The Dictator’s Dilemma: to Punish or to Assist? Plan Failures and Interventions under Stalin [PDF]

open access: yes
A dictator issues an order, but the order is not carried out. The dictator does not know whether the order failed because the agent behaved opportunistically, or because his order contained some mistake. Imperfect information creates his dilemma: whether
