An outbreak of dictyocaulosis in lactating cows on a dairy farm

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 2007
Abstract Case Description—The owner of a herd of 74 Holstein-Friesian cattle reported decreased milk production, weight loss, and coughing among lactating cows. Owner-initiated antimicrobial treatment was unsuccessful; 1 lactating cow died, and 50% of the lactating cows had clinical signs of respiratory distress, such as tachypnea and coughing ...

Dictyocaulosis in housed five‐ to eight‐month‐old dairy‐bred calves

Veterinary Record, 2003
DICTYOCAULOSIS isusually adisease ofcattle onpasture (Radostits andothers 1994), resulting fromthedevelopment offirst-stage Dictyocaulus viviparus larvae infaeces tothe infective third stage between JuneandNovember onnorthernEuropean pastures (Urquhart andothers 1987). Housed cattle withdictyocaulosis areusually recently housed or,if permanently housed,

Dictyocaulosis in cattle

2021
Bovine dictyocaulosis caused by Dictyocaulus viviparus (verminous bronchitis) is a respiratory lungworm that occurs in temperate climates. Its importance is mainly related to the severity of clinical symptoms. The epidemiology of dictyocaulosis is complex due to immunity which develops rapidly in the host but which can disappear within a few months in ...

Epidemiology of bovine dictyocaulosis in Denmark

Veterinary Parasitology, 1980
A field experiment was conducted over two grazing seaons with calves on a permanent pasture in order to follow the pattern of infection with Dictyocaulus viviparus. Infective larvae persisted during the first, but not during the second, winter of observation.

Dictyocaulosis in cattle: Retrospective analysis of 20 outbreaks in Central Argentina

Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports
Bovine lungworms (Dictyocaulus viviparus) are nematodes which cause a respiratory disease known as verminous bronchitis or pneumonia. In this paper, we describe 20 outbreaks of bovine dictyocaulosis recorded between 2000 and 2023 in Central Argentina. Outbreaks occurred more frequently during the autumn-winter season (from April to August) and affected

A dipstick immunoassay using a recombinant antigen for the rapid diagnosis of bovine dictyocaulosis

Research in Veterinary Science, 1993
An immunoblot based dipstick test for the serodiagnosis of infections with Dictyocaulus viviparus using a recombinant antigen was evaluated. Lungworm infections in cattle could be detected with more than 99 per cent specificity and more than 99 per cent sensitivity between days 30 and 85 after experimental infection.

Prophylaxis of bovine trichostrongylidosis and dictyocaulosis in the alpine region: comparison of an early and late administration of the oxfendazole pulse release bolus to first year grazing calves

Veterinary Parasitology, 1996
The effect of the oxfendazole pulse release bolus (OPRB) administered at turnout, in May, or in mid-July on the development of infections with gastrointestinal nematodes and lungworms in first year grazing calves was investigated with three groups of nine animals, all grazing the same pastures in the Swiss midland region. In the calves of Group A (OPRB

Use of a recombinantDictyocaulus viviparus antigen in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for immunodiagnosis of bovine dictyocaulosis

Parasitology Research, 1992
A specific recombinant antigen was evaluated for its immunodiagnostic potential in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The antigen was used as a glutathione S-transferase (GST) fusion protein (DvGST3-14) or as a pure recombinant parasite protein (Dv3-14).
