Die-off and attachment of E. coli on watermelon surfaces.

open access: yes, 2019
Average E.coli count on the watermelon surfaces and FSMA- PSR predicted count on produce surfaces based on the die-off rate of 0.5 log CFU/day, up to 120 h (Day 6).

Dehnel's Phenomenon in Mammals

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 2, June 2026.
Some small mammals, which remain active year‐round, undergo reversible reductions in body size, braincase height, and the mass of internal organs, including the brain, from summer to winter. It is called Dehnel's phenomenon. In this review, we summarise knowledge of the mechanisms, adaptive value, and genetic basis of the phenomenon, and show how new ...

The Fungal Community of a High‐Arctic Semi‐Desert Ecosystem Is Robust to Two Decades of Doubled Summer Precipitation but Influenced by Plant Dominance

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 12, June 2026.
ABSTRACT In high‐arctic semi‐desert ecosystems, climate projections suggest a doubling of the current ≤ 250 mm annual precipitation by 2075, increasingly falling as summer rain. This is expected to affect the balance among fungal ecological groups and stimulate decomposition over build‐up of soil organic matter.

Natural Die‐Offs of Large Mammals: Implications for Conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, 1994
The viability of populations is a central concern of biological conservation. The occurrence of catastrophic die‐offs may greatly reduce the long‐term viability of populations. Theoretical extinction models and viability analyses require information on the frequency of die‐offs and on the distribution of die‐off severities.

Heat treatment duration affects in vitro‐induced photosynthetic impairment and development of necrotic leaf tissue in three Mediterranean oak species

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 1256-1267, June 2026.
Longer lasting heat treatment durations induced photosynthetic impairment at lower temperatures and caused the development of proportionally more necrotic tissue at lower temperatures in leaves of three Mediterranean oak species. Abstract Short heat treatments are commonly used to estimate the leaf‐level thermal tolerance of tree species. The effect of
