Mosquito host-seeking diel rhythm and chemosensory gene expression is affected by age and Plasmodium stages

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Malaria parasites can affect vector-related behaviours, increasing transmission success. Using Anopheles gambiae and Plasmodium falciparum, we consider the effect of interaction between infection stage and vector age on diel locomotion in response to ...

Large Individual-Level Variability in Diel Activity and Depth Use for the Common Lionfish (Pterois miles)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
The common lionfish, Pterois miles, a notoriously invasive species known for its harmful effect on native fish communities in the Atlantic Ocean, has recently begun spreading across the Mediterranean Sea.

A laboratory system for examining the influence of light on diel activity of stream invertebrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
I describe a laboratory system for investigating the role of light as a proximate cue for diel changes in locomotor activity and vertical location on the substrate of stream macro-invertebrates.

Larval condition and growth of Sardinella brasiliensis (Steindachner, 1879): preliminary results from laboratory studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Brazilian sardine, the most important resource along the southeastern Brazilian coast, presented great variations and declines in its stocks. The main factors contributing to this are: oceanographic structure changes; recruitment failures; excessive ...

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

(Poly)Borylated Species as Modern Reactive Groups toward Unusual Synthetic Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this review, we spotlight recent breakthroughs in α‐polyboron‐substituted carbon‐centered intermediates (carbanion, carbocation, radical, and carbene) and polyborylated alkenes. By bridging fundamental reactivity with the application potential of these extraordinary species, we hope this review will serve as a roadmap for harnessing these unique ...

Mechanically Triggered Chemical Recyclable Polyethylene‐Like Materials

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Polyethylene‐like copolymers with benchmark properties are prepared by embedding latent cyclobutene mechanophores to overcome PE's end‐of‐life limits. The mechanophores are inert in service but are selectively opened by solvent‐free ball milling to yield well‐defined telechelic oligomers.

Manatees display diel trends in acoustic activity at two microhabitats in Belize.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Many marine mammals exhibit diel trends in vocal production, which can provide information on habitat use and behavioral activity. In Belize, Antillean manatees (Trichechus manatus manatus) commonly inhabit small depressions in the substrate or deep ...
