Microbial Degradation of Aldrin and Dieldrin: Mechanisms and Biochemical Pathways

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
As members of the organochlorine group of insecticides, aldrin and dieldrin are effective at protecting agriculture from insect pests. However, because of excessive use and a long half-life, they have contributed to the major pollution of the water/soil ...

Developmental exposure to the Parkinson's disease-associated organochlorine pesticide dieldrin alters dopamine neurotransmission in α-synuclein pre-formed fibril (PFF)-injected mice. [PDF]

open access: yesToxicol Sci, 2023
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most common movement disorder and one of the fastest-growing neurological diseases worldwide. This increase outpaces the rate of aging and is most rapid in recently industrialized areas, suggesting the role of ...

Determination of Median Lethal Concentration (LC50) for Endosulfan, Heptachlor and Dieldrin Pesticides to African Catfish, Clarias gariepinus and Their Impact on Its Behavioral Patterns and Histopathological Responses

open access: yesToxics, 2021
Pesticides such as endosulfan, heptachlor and dieldrin persist in aquatic environments as a result of their resistance to biodegradation. However, there is no adequate information about the toxicity of endosulfan, heptachlor and dieldrin to the aquatic ...

Optimization of Dieldrin Selection for the Genetic Sexing of Aedes albopictus [PDF]

open access: yesInsects, 2023
The mass production of mosquitoes at an industrial scale requires efficient sex separation, which can be achieved through mechanical, genetic or artificial intelligence means.

Excretion of Dieldrin in the Milk of Cows Fed Dieldrin-Sprayed Forage and Technical Dieldrin

open access: bronzeJournal of Dairy Science, 1954
Summary Dieldrin was detected in the milk of four cows when fed liay made from forage that had been sprayed with 3.5 and 7.0oz. of dieldrin per acre. The average daily dieldrin intakes were 0.10 and 0.75mg. per kilogram of body weight when the cows were fed the hays sprayed with 3.5 and 7.0oz. of dieldrin per acre, respectively.

Water Quality Criteria of Dieldrin for the Protection of Aquatic Organisms and Wildlife Using a Tissue Residue Approach [PDF]

open access: yesToxics
Dieldrin is legacy organochlorine insecticide, which was listed in the Stockholm Convention because of its persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity. However, it is still present in the environment and in organisms two decades after its ban.

Environmental Risk Factors for Parkinson's Disease: A Critical Review and Policy Implications. [PDF]

open access: yesMov Disord
Abstract The age‐standardized prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) has increased substantially over the years and is expected to increase further. This emphasizes the need to identify modifiable risk factors of PD, which could form a logical entry point for the prevention of PD. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended reducing exposure to

Developmental and lactational exposure to dieldrin alters mammary tumorigenesis in Her2/neu transgenic mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Western women and while its precise etiology is unknown, environmental factors are thought to play a role. The organochlorine pesticide dieldrin is a persistent environmental toxicant thought to increase the ...

Environmental neurotoxin dieldrin induces apoptosis via caspase-3-dependent proteolytic activation of protein kinase C delta (PKCdelta): Implications for neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2008
Background In previous work, we investigated dieldrin cytotoxicity and signaling cell death mechanisms in dopaminergic PC12 cells. Dieldrin has been reported to be one of the environmental factors correlated with Parkinson's disease and may selectively ...
