On why dielectric breakdown strength reduces with dielectric thickness

2016 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium (IRPS), 2016
An intrinsic/fundamental-physics reason is presented for why the dielectric breakdown strength Ebd reduces with dielectric thickness tdiel. Through extensive use of layered dipole summations, it is shown that the Lorentz factor L tends to increase with thickness.

Dielectric breakdown strength measurements with silicone-based single-layer dielectric elastomer transducers

Smart Materials and Structures, 2019
Dielectric elastomer transducers (DETs) consist of an elastic dielectric film sandwiched between compliant electrodes. Applying an electric voltage leads to an electrostatic pressure between the electrodes which causes a deformation of the DET due to the

Dielectric breakdown strength of mineral oil based nanofluids

2016 International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis (CMD), 2016
In this paper, the dielectric properties of the mineral oil-based nanofluids was studied. The aim of this research is to improve electrical property of the mineral oil by applying nanotechnology knowledge. Three types of nanoparticle i.e. Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) and Zinc oxide (ZnO) with the mean diameter less than 100 nm ...

Nanolaminates: Increasing Dielectric Breakdown Strength of Composites

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2012
Processable, low-cost, high-performance hybrid dielectrics are enablers for a vast array of green technologies, including high-temperature electrical insulation and pulsed power capacitors for all-electric transportation vehicles. Maximizing the dielectric breakdown field (E(BD)), in conjunction with minimization of leakage current, directly impacts ...

Influence of humidity, temperature and prestretch on the dielectric breakdown strength of silicone elastomer membranes for DEAs

Smart materials and structures (Print), 2020
Humidity, temperature and membrane prestretch influence the dielectric breakdown strength of elastomer membranes. These three factors thus also influence the maximum force and strain that dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) can generate, as the Maxwell

Dielectric breakdown strength in magnetic fluids

physica status solidi (b), 2003
AbstractThe application of an external magnetic field on the magnetic fluids induces needle like structuralization of magnetic particles. The influence of this aggregation of magnetic particles in an external magnetic field H on the magneto‐dielectric behaviour and dielectric breakdown strength of a transformer oil based magnetic fluids was measured ...
