Breakdown strength of solid dielectrics in liquid nitrogen

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2008
The objective of this research was to determine if a relationship could be found between dielectric strength and other properties of electrical insulating materials in the medium of liquid nitrogen on an empirical basis by using variables predicted by basic theory.

Size-dependence of the dielectric breakdown strength from nano- to millimeter scale

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 2014
Dielectric breakdown decisively determines the reliability of nano- to centimeter-sized electronic devices and -components. A systematic investigation of the size-dependent dielectric breakdown strength reveals a thickness-independent intrinsic regime ...

Effect of Elongation on Dielectric Breakdown Strength in Polyethylene

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1975
A measurement of the dielectric breakdown strength in low- and high-density polyethylene was carried out under the condition of elongation by tensile stress. The wave forms of applied voltages were a.c., d.c. and impulse (1×40 µs) voltages, and the thickness of films of polyethylene was ca. 50 µm.

Electric breakdown strength measurement in liquid dielectrics

2010 9th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, 2010
Development of new technologies and materials in electric power engineering is very closely associated with question of ecology presently. Daily, there is consumed thousands tons of electro-insulating materials, including of electroi-nsulating oil, which are the main component of paper - oil transformers by the electric power systems devices production.

True dielectric breakdown strength of cable papers

Electrical Engineering, 1948
The object of this study is to present a new unique way of controlling edge effect and thus obtain the true dielectric breakdown strength of electric cable insulating papers, to compare the dielectric strength of paper so determined with the dielectric strength of other materials and with the dielectric strength of built-up paper insulation, and to ...

The breakdown strength of two-layer dielectrics

11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999
In paper the experimental results of the breakdown strength study for the two-layer dielectrics under the high electric field are given. The relation between the breakdown strength (E b ) and the boundary position (ξ) between layers for the two-layer dielectrics is anomalous in character.

The Dielectric Breakdown Strength of Magnetic Fluids Based on Transformer Oil

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 2004
The DC dielectric breakdown strength of magnetic fluids based on transformer oil TECHNOL US 4000, with different saturation magnetizations, was investigated in various orientations of external magnetic field. It was shown that the dielectric breakdown strength in H∥E is strongly influenced by the aggregation effects.

On why dielectric breakdown strength reduces with dielectric thickness

2016 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium (IRPS), 2016
An intrinsic/fundamental-physics reason is presented for why the dielectric breakdown strength Ebd reduces with dielectric thickness tdiel. Through extensive use of layered dipole summations, it is shown that the Lorentz factor L tends to increase with thickness.

On the role of electron attachment in the breakdown strength of gaseous dielectrics

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1981
Experimental data on electron attachment and breakdown voltages Vs for two groups of strongly electron attaching gases-perfluorocarbons and freons-and some of their mixtures with electron slowing-down gases have been used in an effort to quantify the role of electron attachment on the breakdown strength of gases.

Dielectric strength of breakdown voltage of Nitrogen and Carbon-dioxide

2013 10th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2013
This paper presents the investigations on AC, DC and Negative lightning Impulse breakdown voltages and leakage currents of Nitrogen (N2) and Carbon-dioxide (CO2) in nonuniform electric field. The sphere-plane electrodes have been applied. The sphere radius is 2.5, 10 and 20 mm. The gap distance is varied from 2.5 to 20 mm. and the gas pressure from 0.5
