Contractile Hydrostatically Coupled Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, 2012
The so-called hydrostatically coupled dielectric elastomer actuators (HC-DEAs) have recently been described as a means to improve versatility and safety of electroactive polymer actuators made of DEs. HC-DEAs use an incompressible fluid that mechanically couples a DE-based active part to a passive part interfaced to the load.

Bending Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

ECS Meeting Abstracts
Dielectric Elastomer Actuators (DEAs) are a type of electroactive polymers that transform electric energy into mechanical work and are capable of large strains and high energy densities. DEAs are often described as “artificial muscles” because they exhibit strains, energy density, and responsiveness similar to natural human muscles.

Poleable Dielectric Elastomer Composites

2017
As part of the recent efforts on renewable energies, energy harvesting by exploiting environmental motions and vibrations to generate electricity is being enthusiastically developed as a novel kind of green energy source. Piezoelectric materials are a logical choice for such applications, as they can readily generate electric charges when subjected to ...

ENHANCING THE DIELECTRIC PERMITTIVITY OF ELASTOMERS

2008
The electromechanical transduction properties of any dielectric elastomer are intrinsically regulated by the dielectric permittivity of the material. This parameter proportionally controls both the achievable active stresses and strains. Accordingly, a suitable increase of the material permittivity may provide a valuable means to improve the ...
