Butterfly‐Inspired Hierarchical Hybrid Composites for Lightweight Structural Thermal Management Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Emulating nature's unparalleled engineering, this work introduces butterfly‐inspired hybrid composites for high‐performance transportation and defense sectors. Leveraging biomimicry, these lightweight composites feature butterfly leg‐inspired hierarchical fibrous assemblies and butterfly wing‐inspired sandwich‐structured architecture, to achieve ...

An improved formulation of Jaccard's theory of the electric properties of ice

open access: yes, 2018
In the standard derivation of Jaccard's theory of the electric properties of ice, no fundamental distinction is made between bound and free charges.

Molecular ferroelectric contributions to anomalous hysteresis in hybrid perovskite solar cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report a model describing the molecular orientation disorder in CH3NH3PbI3, solving a classical Hamiltonian parametrised with electronic structure calculations, with the nature of the motions informed by ab-initio molecular dynamics.

Vivid Structural Coloration in Transparent MXene‐Cellulose Nanocrystals Composite Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vivid structural coloration in reflectance and high transparency in transmittance modes are observed in biopolymer‐layered composite films. The ultrathin multilayered structures have unique optical appearance, near‐infrared bandgap, and strong optical reflection caused by alternating MXene and cellulose nanocrystals layers with high refractive index ...

Fourier Optics approach to imaging with sub-wavelength resolution through metal-dielectric multilayers

open access: yes, 2010
Metal-dielectric layered stacks for imaging with sub-wavelength resolution are regarded as linear isoplanatic systems - a concept popular in Fourier Optics and in scalar diffraction theory.

Advances in Radiative Heat Transfer: Bridging Far‐Field Fundamentals and Emerging Near‐Field Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes the evolution of radiative heat transfer, emphasizing the transition from far‐field to near‐field regimes. Traditional frameworks, such as Planck's law, are revisited alongside modern innovations like fluctuational electrodynamics. Applications span nanoscale thermal management, energy harvesting, and thermophotovoltaic systems.

CMOS compatible metamaterial absorbers for hyperspectral medium wave infrared imaging and sensing applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We experimentally demonstrate a CMOS compatible medium wave infrared metal-insulator-metal (MIM) metamaterial absorber structure where for a single dielectric spacer thickness at least 93% absorption is attained for 10 separate bands centred at 3.08, 3 ...

Inter‐Layer Diffusion of Excitations in 2D Perovskites Revealed by Photoluminescence Reabsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inter‐layer diffusion of photoexcitations is monitored in thin films of the 2D perovskite (PEA)2PbI4 by tracking time‐dependent changes in photoluminescence spectra induced by photon reabsorption effects. A low out‐of‐plane excitation diffusion coefficient of 0.26 × 10−4 cm2 s−1 is determined through 1D diffusion modeling.

Dielectric tuning and coupling of whispering gallery modes using an anisotropic prism

open access: yes, 2016
Optical whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators are a powerful and versatile tool used in many branches of science. Fine tuning of the central frequency and line width of individual resonances is however desirable in a number of applications including ...

STUDIES ON THE DIELECTRIC POLARISATION AND THE DIPOLE MOMENTS OF ENANTIOMERS

open access: yes, 1948
Dielectric poIarisations and dipole momenta of \(d\), \(d\) and \(dl\) forms of camphor borneol and menthol at different concentrations have been determined to addnce support for the Pasteur's principle of molecular dissymmetry and to investigate the nature of linkage in \(dl ...
