It is shown that distortions appear in a signal propagated in a dielectric waveguide with a quadratic-law variation of the refractive index. These distortions are avoided if the refractive index varies in accordance with the hyperbolic cosine law.

Composite Dielectric Waveguides
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1980Composite dielectric waveguides, or a class of dielectric waveguides made of a few dielectric materials, are described. A composite circular dielectric waveguide (CCDW) is treated with the the point-matching method. Computed values of the propagation constant of the CCDW are compared with those of the homogeneous circular dielectric waveguides (HCDW ...

We attempt a brief and broad overview and historical perspective of the theory of lightwave propagation in dielectric waveguides. This is a subject that is now documented by extensive literature. As our review task is limited by constraints in both space and time it will be illustrative rather than comprehensive.

Terahertz dielectric waveguides
Advances in Optics and Photonics, 2013Several classes of non-planar metallic and dielectric waveguides have been proposed in the literature for guidance of terahertz (THz) or T-ray radiation. In this review, we focus on the development of dielectric waveguides, in the THz regime, with reduced loss and dispersion.

Dielectric terahertz waveguides
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO 2000). Technical Digest. Postconference Edition. TOPS Vol.39 (IEEE Cat. No.00CH37088), 2000Summary form only given. We believe we report the first demonstration of waveguide propagation of sub-ps THz pulses in a dielectric fiber. The experimental arrangement employed for coupling of free-space single-cycle THz radiation to the fiber is similar to that used for investigations of THz propagation in metallic waveguides.

Modal cutoff, dispersion, and attenuation characteristics for the dielectric coaxial waveguide (three interfaces) are presented for representative parameters. These properties change considerably as the guide geometry and dielectric properties are varied.

Nonradiative Dielectric Waveguide Circuit Components
1981 International Conference on Submillimeter Waves and Their Applications, 1981The nonradiative dielectric waveguide (NRD-guide) is a newly proposed dielectric waveguide which can substantially suppress radiation at curved sections and discontinuities and is applicable to great advantage for millimeter wave integrated circuits.

In the preceding portions of this book, it has usually been assumed that the medium in which the phenomena take place is either free space or a material in which the energy losses can be neglected. It is now desired to investigate more closely what happens when the energy losses must be taken into account as well as to indicate the mechanism of these ...

An All-Dielectric Coaxial Waveguide
Science, 2000An all-dielectric coaxial waveguide that can overcome problems of polarization rotation and pulse broadening in the transmission of optical light is presented here. It consists of a coaxial waveguiding region with a low index of refraction, bounded by two cylindrical, dielectric, multilayer, omnidirectional reflecting mirrors.

Rectangular Dielectric Waveguides
1974The properties of lossless rectangular dielectric waveguides will be presented. A review of the relevant analysis techniques will be given. Marcatili’s rectangular harmonic analysis which yields closed form results for many integrated optics applications and the circular harmonic numerical approach will be described.
