Circumflex Scapular Artery Perforator Flap and Its Surgical Refinements in Soft Tissue Reconstruction for Various Regions of the Foot and Ankle in Pediatric Patients

open access: yesMicrosurgery, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Reconstruction for various regions of the foot and ankle in pediatric patients remains a challenging topic. This study presents the circumflex scapular artery perforator (CSAP) flap and its surgical refinements for addressing soft tissue defects in various regions of the foot and ankle in pediatrics.

Hug Flap and Hamdi Hammock: Two Innovative Techniques for Enhancing Aesthetic Outcomes in Deep Inferior Epigastric Artery Perforator Breast Reconstruction

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Background:. Achieving optimal aesthetic outcomes in deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction remains a challenge, often necessitating additional procedures for refinement. This study presents two innovative techniques

DIEP flap breast reconstructions: thermographic assistance as a possibility for perforator mapping and improvement of DIEP flap quality

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2020
In the modern world, one-third or more of breast cancer patients still undergo uni- or bilateral mastectomy. Breast cancer patients, in general, have a good prognosis and long-term survival. Therefore, the treatment must not only focus on survival but also on the quality of life.

Reconstruction of Abdominal Defects After Open Abdomen Treatment Using Propeller Flaps of the Superior and Deep Inferior Epigastric Artery System: Report of Two Cases

open access: yesMicrosurgery, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Open abdomen treatment (OAT) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. In cases where primary or delayed fascial closure cannot be achieved, vacuum‐assisted wound closure and mesh‐mediated fascial traction are indicated, which often result in a planned ventral hernia. If secondary skin closure is not feasible, common treatment of

Current Practices and Evidence of Aspirin Usage in Microvascular Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesMicrosurgery, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) has been used in reconstructive microsurgery since the inception of the field. However, when compared to placebo groups, its efficacy is not confirmed. In our study, we hypothesize that the utility of ASA postoperatively in microvascular surgery is not associated with improved outcomes.

Impact of Previous Abdominal Surgery on Postoperative Complication of Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Breast Reconstruction: A Retrospective Comparative Study

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Background:. The deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap is considered the gold standard for autologous breast reconstruction. Many patients have had previous abdominal surgery (PAS), which poses a challenge in flap harvesting and may impact both

Augmented reality for rhinoplasty: 3D scanning and projected AR for intraoperative planning validation

open access: yesHealthcare Technology Letters, Volume 12, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
The main idea of the present work is the using of 3D scan to acquire directly in the surgical room the final shape of the nose and to show the surgeon the differences respect to the planning in an intuitive way. This is achieved by using projected augmented reality to project false colours directly onto the patient's face.

ALGORITHM OF PARTIAL BREAST RECONSTRUCTION WITH PEDICLED PERFORATOR FLAPS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
INTRODUCTION: The authors present an algorithm of partial breast reconstruction following quadrantectomy that allows to restore the breast volume defect with the use of pedicled perforator flaps. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between March 2009 and May 2010,
