Abstract. Restriction of all dietary fat is a popular strategy for restricting saturated fat intake to lower LDL cholesterol. Some authorities advise the restriction of fat intake to the extreme of less than 10% of daily energy on the assumption that more fat restriction is better.

Dietary recommendations for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia (HC) emphasize stepwise reductions in fat intake, but there is no agreement on what lower limit is desirable or achievable. These recommendations have applied broadly to persons with HC alone, as well as to those with a combined elevation in triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol, even though

Familial lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) deficiency is a hereditary disease characterized by an abnormal lipid profile, corneal opacity, anemia and progressive renal disease. We report a patient with complete loss of LCAT activity due to a novel lcat gene mutation of Cys74Tyr in the lid region of LCAT protein.

Clinical Trial Experience with Fat‐Restricted vs. Carbohydrate‐Restricted Weight‐Loss Diets
Obesity Research, 2004AbstractIt is unlikely that one diet is optimal for all overweight or obese persons. Both low‐fat and low‐carbohydrate diets have been shown to induce weight loss and reduce obesity‐related comorbidities. Low‐carbohydrate diets cause greater short‐term (up to 6 months) weight loss than low‐fat diets, but the long‐term clinical safety and efficacy of ...

Diets containing essentially no fat, 1-2 g fat per day, have resulted in cholesterol gallstones. Greater fat may result in less gallbladder stasis. Do gallstones form with greater fat content? We studied 272 moderately obese subjects who had normal gallbladder ultrasonograms. The 900 kcal/day liquid diets contained either 16 g fat (N = 94) or 30 g fat (

Context. —The long-term effect of aggressively vs moderately fat-restricted diets has not been studied extensively in free-living subjects with different types of hyperlipidemia. Objective. —To compare the cholesterol-lowering effects of 4 levels of dietary fat intake restriction after 1 year. Desing.

International guidelines recommend a low-fat diet (LFD) in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP); however, no randomized controlled trials have compared LFD with a normal fat diet (NFD). The necessity of LFD remains uncertain, with concerns about its palatability and lower energy density potentially leading to reduced intake and quality of life (QoL ...
