Evolution‐guided yeast complementation reveals functional differences in human PSPH variants

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ancient genomes can help guide which human genetic variants are tested experimentally. This study applies that idea to PSPH, a gene involved in serine biosynthesis, and uses high‐throughput yeast complementation to compare variant function. The findings reveal measurable differences among selected alleles and illustrate the value of evolution‐guided ...

Effect of diet composition on egg white heat-induced gel properties of Roman laying hens: from phenomenon, substance, structure to mechanism

open access: yesFood Science of Animal Products
Multidimensional impact of diet composition on egg quality and function has become a research hotspot in the laying hen industry. However, there were relatively few reports on the effect of diet composition on the composition of egg white and its heat ...

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Trophic ecology of the Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni Fleischer, 1818) during the breeding season in Azerbaijan

open access: yesAvocetta
The Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) is an opportunistic predator, its trophic ecology in Azerbaijan has not been previously investigated. This study provides the first quantitative assessment of the diet composition of a breeding colony (comprising 12 ...

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Effects of diet composition on coagulation pathways [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1998
Total dietary fat intake is an important determinant of factor VII coagulant activity, a hemostatic risk factor for fatal ischemic heart disease in middle-aged men. This association has a long-term effect by which a high-fat diet increases plasma factor VII antigen concentration, and an acute effect whereby a small proportion of factor VII is converted

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Understanding and Mitigating the Risk of Accelerated Biological Aging in Survivors of Cancer: A Scoping Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Cancer treatment is associated with measurable acceleration of biological aging across epigenetic, telomere, senescence, and immune biomarkers. However, biomarker validation and interventional strategies remain limited, especially in hematologic malignancies, underscoring the need for standardized multi‐omic aging assessments and adequately powered ...
