Controlled trials have shown that a diet with a low glycemic index improves blood glucose and lipid control in patients with diabetes. Two pilot studies were carried out in developing a diet record method in household measures for use in a study of diet in three English towns. The pilot studies involved taking a one‐day food diary from 22 middle‐aged subjects in Southampton and 33 middle‐aged subjects in Stoke‐on‐Trent.
