Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.

Potassium supplementation and depletion during development of salt-sensitive hypertension in male and female SS rats

open access: yesJCI Insight
The dietary sodium/potassium ratio is positively correlated with blood pressure, and understanding this relationship is crucial for improving hypertension treatment. Moreover, few studies have examined these effects in both sexes. In this study, we aimed

Estimation of Dietary Exposure to Sodium Benzoate (E211) and Potassium Sorbate (E202) of Children and Adolescents in the Oran Region, Algeria

open access: yesFoods
Sodium benzoate (E211) and potassium sorbate (E202) are two preservatives widely used alone or in combination in the food industry in Algeria. This study aims to estimate the dietary exposure of children and adolescents to these substances in Oran ...

Controllable engineered probiotic microspheres for treating ulcerative colitis: A cascade enzyme‐catalyzed strategy to restore intestinal redox homeostasis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A dual strategy integrating genetic engineering and physical encapsulation was proposed to enhance the cell viability and antioxidant properties of probiotics. The cascade antioxidant enzymes released from probiotic microspheres restore intestinal redox homeostasis by eliminating intestinal reactive oxygen species for ulcerative colitis treatment ...

Waders in a sea of debris: a global overview

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The impact of plastic pollution on ecosystems and marine fauna is well documented, although research into its effects on waders (also known as shorebirds) remains limited. Given that waders are exposed to coastal marine litter, this exposure could be a significant factor in the decline of their populations. This study aims to assess the global

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Role of dietary potassium in tubule remodeling and kidney health [PDF]

open access: yes
This PhD thesis explores the relationship between potassium, tubule remodeling, and kidney function. It begins by reviewing current knowledge on tubule remodeling and salt transport using tissue clearing techniques and examines how dietary potassium ...

Effects of Dehulling and Extrusion‐Cooking on the Nutritional and Physicochemical Properties of Navy Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Flours

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
Dehulling combined with twin‐screw extrusion improves the nutritional and functional properties of steam treated navy beans. Protein digestibility increases while phytic acid is reduced by 43% and trypsin inhibitors are inactivated. Enhanced expansion, solubility, and sensory quality highlight the potential of dehulled bean flours for developing ...
