Dietary Proteins in Obesity and in Diabetes

International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, 2011
Dietary proteins influence body weight by affecting four targets for body weight regulation: satiety, thermogenesis, energy efficiency, and body composition. Protein ingestion results in higher ratings of satiety than equicaloric amounts of carbohydrates or fat.

Dietary Proteins Regulate Serotonin Biosynthesis and Catabolism by Specific Gut Microbes.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2020
More than 90% of serotonin is produced in the intestine. Previous studies have shown that different protein diets significantly affect serum serotonin levels.

Dietary protein and atherogenesis

Klinische Wochenschrift, 1988
Different dietary proteins determine different serum cholesterol levels if fed in a semisynthetic diet to some, but not all, animal species. In one species, the rabbit, this metabolic response is elicited without adding high sucrose or cholesterol supplements that have to be added to rat or pig diets in order to cause a similar response.

Are There Atherogenic Dietary Proteins?

1986
Studies with rabbits have shown that the nature of protein in the diet can influence the concentration of cholesterol in plasma and the severity of arterial lesions. The feeding of animal proteins such as beef protein, casein or fish protein results in a high degree of aortic atherosclerosis.

The role of dietary protein on lipotoxicity

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2007
The worldwide increase in degenerative diseases is in part due to modifications in the lifestyle including the diet. Epidemiological, clinical, and experimental evidence shows that soy protein may prevent lipotoxicity in non-adipose tissues during obesity.

Variability in the routing of dietary proteins and lipids to consumer tissues influences tissue-specific isotopic discrimination.

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2015
RATIONALE The eco-physiological mechanisms that govern the incorporation and routing of macronutrients from dietary sources into consumer tissues determine the efficacy of stable isotope analysis (SIA) for studying animal foraging ecology.
