Practitioners are increasingly becoming interested in Differential Item Functioning (DIF) forimproving the validity of test and scale interpretations. Among the statistical procedures availableto assess DIF in dichotomous and polytomous items, the Mantel-Haenszel chi-square (1959) andother standardization proceduresmay beparticularly attractive to ...

Broadband development and firm creation: Dif-in-dif estimates for Germany
AHFE International, 2022Although some of the outcomes of the digital transformation are reflected in the scientific literature, the connection between high-speed internet transmission rates and firm entries is still poorly studied. While some positive impact of basic broadband availability in Germany was found in our previous studies, in this paper we decided to examine the ...

An Examination of Item Context Effects, DIF, and Gender DIF
Applied Measurement in Education, 2001This investigation examined whether the patterns of gender differential item functioning (DIF) present in parcels of items are influenced by changes in item position. Items were studied collectively to detect differential bundle functioning (DBF) on 2 forms of a test of mathematics for college freshmen. To investigate order effects, 2 forms of the test

The DIFs are a family of secreted chlorinated molecules that control cell fate during development of Dictyostelium cells in culture and probably during normal development too. They induce stalk cell differentiation and suppress spore cell formation. The biosynthetic and inactivation pathways of DIF-1 (the major bioactivity) have been worked out.

Not all DIF is shaped similarly
Psychometrika, 2021In response to the target article by Teresi et al. (2021), we explain why the article is useful and we also present a different approach. An alternative category of differential item functioning (DIF) is presented with a corresponding way of modeling DIF, based on random person and random item effects and explanatory covariates.

Impact of unbalanced DIF item proportions on group-specific DIF identification
Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2018AbstractDifferences in type I error and power rates for majority and minority groups are investigated when differential item functioning (DIF) contamination in a test is unbalanced.

This app allows users to implement an approach to differential item functioning (DIF) described in Chapter 15 of McDonald (1999). The app runs in an Excel spreadsheet and requires as input the results of separate confirmatory factor analyses of a reference and a focal group.

Simultaneous DIF Amplification and Cancellation: Shealy‐Stout's Test for DIF
Journal of Educational Measurement, 1993The present study investigates the phenomena of simultaneous DIF amplification and cancellation and SIBTEST's role in detecting such. A variety of simulated test data were generated for this purpose. In addition, real test data from various sources were analyzed.
