In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Continuous replica-symmetry breaking in mean-field spin-glass models: Perturbation expansion without the replica trick

open access: yes, 2012
The full mean-field solution of spin glass models with a continuous order-parameter function is not directly available and approximate schemes must be used to assess its properties.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Analysis of Algorithms for Velocity Estimation from Discrete Position Versus Time Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Algorithms for constructing velocity approximations from discrete position versus time data are investigated. The study is limited to algorithms suitable to provide velocity information in discrete-time feedback control systems such as microprocessor ...

Reversible watermark using difference expansion of quads [PDF]

open access: yes2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2004
A reversible watermarking algorithm with very high data hiding capacity has been developed for colored images. The algorithm allows the watermarking process to be reversed to restore the original image exactly. The algorithm hides triplets of bits in the difference expansion of quads of adjacent pixels.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

SEX DIFFERENCES IN ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM EXPANSION

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2016
Male sex is a risk factor for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), while women are at higher risk of aneurysm rupture than men. Whether risk factors of aneurysm expansion differ between women and men are unclear. We studied 650 patients with AAA [mean age 70±8 years, mean (SE) baseline size: 3.69 (0.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
