Continuous‐wave differential absorption lidar
AbstractThis work proves the feasibility of a novel concept of differential absorption lidar based on the Scheimpflug principle. The range‐resolved atmospheric backscattering signal of a laser beam is retrieved by employing a tilted linear sensor with a Newtonian telescope, satisfying the Scheimpflug condition.

Lidar differential absorption and scattering technique: theory
Applied Optics, 1983The results of theoretical investigations of the differential absorption technique for sounding atmospheric water vapor are described in this paper. The sources of errors and their effect on the results of interpreting the sounding data are analyzed. The mathematical problems for inverting the lidar returns are considered.

Remote sensing of NO using a differential absorption lidar
Applied Optics, 1980Single-ended remote sensing measurements of atmospheric NO have been made using differential absorption of frequency-doubled pulsed CO(2) laser radiation backscattered from topographic targets. Returns were obtained from targets at ranges out to 1.4 km, and significant NO concentrations above ambient were observed over a path which crossed a traffic ...

Demonstration of differential backscatter absorption gas imaging
Applied Optics, 2000Backscatter absorption gas imaging (BAGI) is a technique that uses infrared active imaging to generate real-time video imagery of gas plumes. We describe a method that employs imaging at two wavelengths (absorbed and not absorbed by the gas to be detected) to allow wavelength-differential BAGI.

Differential-absorption photoacoustic imaging
Optics Letters, 2009We present differential-absorption photoacoustic imaging, which detects the difference between transient and ground-state absorption, for contrast enhancement based on suppressing undesired objects. Two tubes were imaged. One contains a Pt(II) octaethylporphine (PtOEP) dye solution and serves as an object of interest, while the other contains an IR-783

Differential absorption lidar signal averaging
Applied Optics, 1988This paper presents experimental results using an atmospheric backscatter dual CO(2) laser differential absorption lidar (DIAL). It is shown that DIAL signals can be averaged to obtain an N(-(1/2)) dependence decrease in the standard deviation of the ratio of backscattered returns from two lasers, where N is the number of DIAL signals averaged, and ...

Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) Measurements of Ozone in the 280–290 nm Wavelength Region [PDF]
The differential absorption structure of the ozone spectrum between 250 and 330 nm has been investigated in order to determine the optimal wavelength region to be utilized for active differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) measurements ...
