Water vapor differential absorption lidar development and evaluation
Applied Optics, 1979A ground-based differential absorption lidar (DIAL) system is described which has been developed for vertical range-resolved measurements of water vapor. The laser transmitter consists of a ruby-pumped dye laser, which is operated on a water vapor absorption line at 724.372 nm.

Analytical differentiation of the differential-absorption-lidar data distorted by noise
Applied Optics, 2002A method of analytical differentiation is developed for processing differential absorption lidar (DIAL) data. The method is based on simple analytical transformation of the DIAL on and off signal ratio. The derivatives consequently are found for either individual data points or local zones of the measurement range.

Sensitivity of coherent rage-resolved differential absorption lidar
Applied Optics, 1984A range-resolved DIAL (differential absorption lidar) system with heterodyne detection has been developed. A hybrid TEA CO2 laser was employed as the transmitter oscillator, which emitted single-frequency pulses of 140 mJ. The heterodyne receiver, which had a minimum detectable power of 2 × 10−11 W, could detect the echo signals backscattered from ...

Differential Absorption Lidar Measurements of Tropospheric Ozone
Laser Applications to Chemical Analysis, 1994Ozone is one of the most important trace species in the atmosphere and the focus of several important environmental issues. Most ozone resides in the stratosphere where it plays a critical role in protecting the biosphere from harmful solar ultraviolet radiation.

Differential-Absorption Lidar for Water Vapor and Temperature Profiling
2006The application of differential absorption lidar to narrow lines of the rotational-vibrational spectrum of water vapor or oxygen for humidity and temperature profiling is technically demanding with respect to the laser source and the data acquisition. Many details need to be considered carefully in system design and data evaluation.

Infrared Differential Absorption Lidar for Vapor Detection
1988Abstract : Ground-mobile and airborne carbon dioxide laser systems were developed to measure vapor clouds using differential absorption lidar (DIAL) techniques. Field testing with the ground-mobile lidar detected a vapor cloud at 7 km using the return signal from a topographic target at a range of 8.5 km.

Differential Absorption Lidar Measurements of Atmospheric Species
Topical Meeting on Optical Techniques for Remote Probing of the Atmosphere, 1983Interest in remote measurements of atmospheric gases has gained increased emphasis in recent years because of the need to assess the impact of man's activity on his environment. It has been recognized that knowledge of the sources, sinks, transport, and chemistry of atmospheric species must be obtained over large scales to understand the balance ...

Probing Air Pollutants by Differential Absorption LIDAR
1992Air pollution is related with numerous different physical, chemical and meteorological phenomena. So, the atmospheric equilibrium depends on hundreds of chemical species, but only few of them are directly emitted and considered as main pollutants. All the others are trace constituents, being nevertheless of outstanding importance for the chemical ...

Atmospheric tomography using differential absorption lidar
SPIE Proceedings, 1997Differential Absorption Lidar measurements from a satellite platform are more complex and can yield more information than terrestrial DIAL measurements because of the significant Doppler shift associated with high satellite velocity relative to the atmosphere. This Doppler effect can be exploited as an extra degree of freedom in matching laser lines to
