The reference range for differential absorption lidars

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1980
The concept of reference range for lidars is extended to the case of differential absorption lidars. A method for determining the wavelengths of operation, optimal from the point of view of maximum reference range for uniform and non-uniform absorbant distribution, is presented.

Frequency chirped differential absorption LIDAR

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
We present a novel concept design of a differential absorption LIDAR for open path trace gas sensing in the atmosphere. To perform a range-resolved gas sensing we propose to arrange a set of retroreflectors in the laser beam path to measure a differential absorption in adjacent sections.

Nonconventional coherent differential absorption lidar

SPIE Proceedings, 1992
A new detection method is presented for detecting the weak optical signal scattered back from a topographic target. The weak signal arriving from a topographic target is amplified by the frequency modulated transmitter laser of the lidar system and the amplified signal is mixed with the frequency shifted transmitter laser beam.

Analysis of differential absorption lidar from the Space Shuttle

Applied Optics, 1978
A parametric analysis of the Shuttle-borne differential absorption lidar concept for the measurement of atmospheric trace constituent profiles in the nadir viewing mode is presented. The criterion of an optimum constituent optical depth is developed and applied to generate estimates of range resolved measurement errors.

Analytical differentiation of the differential-absorption-lidar data distorted by noise

Applied Optics, 2002
A method of analytical differentiation is developed for processing differential absorption lidar (DIAL) data. The method is based on simple analytical transformation of the DIAL on and off signal ratio. The derivatives consequently are found for either individual data points or local zones of the measurement range.

Sensitivity of coherent rage-resolved differential absorption lidar

Applied Optics, 1984
A range-resolved DIAL (differential absorption lidar) system with heterodyne detection has been developed. A hybrid TEA CO2 laser was employed as the transmitter oscillator, which emitted single-frequency pulses of 140 mJ. The heterodyne receiver, which had a minimum detectable power of 2 × 10−11 W, could detect the echo signals backscattered from ...

Water vapor differential absorption lidar development and evaluation

Applied Optics, 1979
A ground-based differential absorption lidar (DIAL) system is described which has been developed for vertical range-resolved measurements of water vapor. The laser transmitter consists of a ruby-pumped dye laser, which is operated on a water vapor absorption line at 724.372 nm.

Differential absorption lidar system for routine monitoring of tropospheric ozone

Applied Optics, 1994
A differential absorption lidar system for routine profiling of tropospheric ozone for daytime and nighttime operation is described. The system uses stimulated Raman scattering in hydrogen and deuterium of 266-nm radiation from a quadrupled Nd:YAG laser.

CO 2 coherent differential absorption lidar

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
Experimental chemical detection and radiometric results are presented from recent coherent differential absorption lidar (DIAL) ground tests conducted over four kilometer horizontal path at the Air Force Research Laboratory. Heterodyne data was collected simultaneously with the Laser Airborne Remote Sensing direct detection DIAL sensor for comparison ...
