Assimilation of Atmospheric CO2 Concentration in the ORCHIDEE Land Surface Model: Exploring the Added Value of Explicit Forest Regrowth Representation

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The land absorbs a large proportion of human‐induced carbon emissions, yet the spatial distribution of this carbon sink remains uncertain. Land surface models (LSMs) and atmospheric inversions often diverge on the spatial distribution of carbon sink, with models generally underestimating the northern land sink (above 30°N).

Application of geometrical form factor in differential absorption lidar measurement

open access: yes, 1997
The peak position for a lidar return signal is calculated and measured for the horizontal path with variation of the laser beam divergence angle (theta), and the inclination angle (delta) between the telescope and laser axes.

Process‐Based Model Parameters for Post‐Fire Snow Hydrology: Looking Beyond Snow Albedo and Vegetation

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Wildfires fundamentally alter snow accumulation and melt dynamics by modifying forest canopy structure, snow albedo, and snowpack physical properties. Despite the growing body of work on fire impacts on snow, few studies have used physically based models to simulate post‐fire changes, and none have examined the global parameter sensitivities ...

Lakes Amplify Carbon Emissions Relative to Downstream Export in Aquatic Networks

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Inland waters emit and export large quantities of carbon (C), and the balance between emission and export determines the role of inland waters in the global C cycle. Modeling studies of stream‐lake networks suggest that C emission‐to‐export ratios (emission:export) are higher in lake‐rich networks with longer network residence times (NRT), yet

Vertical Redistribution of Ozone Precursor Proxies During Typhoon Peripheral Periods: Insights From MAX‐DOAS and GEOS‐Chem

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Typhoon peripheral conditions modulate the formation and atmospheric fate of ozone precursors, yet the vertical distribution and the underlying physical‐chemical drivers remain less constrained. Here, we examine the vertical profiles of ozone precursor proxies, including formaldehyde (HCHO), glyoxal (CHOCHO), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), in the

The Role of Lightning in Atmospheric Chemistry

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Lightning has important effects on atmospheric constituents in primarily the middle and upper troposphere. We summarize the effects of lightning on atmospheric chemistry that have been published since the last major review in 2007. The estimates of NOx production by lightning (LNOx) are based on five methods: theoretical/laboratory estimates ...

Wafer‐Scale Near‐Infrared Metalenses With High Performance and Low Cost

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 16, 26 August 2026.
Widespread adoption of metalenses is constrained by prohibitive cost of wafer‐level fabrication. This work achieves 8‐inch wafer‐level fabrication with high uniformity (feature deviation < 5%) and reliable performance by step‐and‐repeat nanoimprint lithography.
