Latent Heat Fluxes over Complex Terrain from Airborne Water Vapour and Wind Lidars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Tropospheric profiles of water vapour and wind were measured with a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and a heterodyne detection Doppler wind lidar collo-cated onboard the DLR Falcon research aircraft in the past two years.

Integrating SfM, LiDAR and TLS for High‐Resolution Monitoring of Palsa Surface Changes and Degradation Dynamics

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding fine‐scale surface changes is crucial for quantifying ecosystem dynamics and detecting landscape changes. Palsas, comparably small peatland elevations with an ice‐rich permafrost core, undergo natural cycles of growth and degradation. They can also serve as indicators of climate change in subarctic regions. Because they typically

Development of wavelength locking circuit for 1.53 micron water vapor monitoring coherent differential absorption LIDAR

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
We have studied a ground based coherent differential absorption LIDAR (DIAL) for vertical profiling of water vapor density using a 1.5μm laser wavelength. A coherent LIDAR has an advantage in daytime measurement compared with incoherent LIDAR because the

Model-based inference for biomass estimation in a LiDAR sample survey in Hedmark County, Norway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In forest inventories, regression models are often applied to predict quantities such as biomass at the level of sampling units. In this paper, we propose a model-based inference framework for combining sampling and model errors in the variance ...

Scaling turbulence drives the general circulation

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The NOAA Gulfstream SP4, which deployed the GPS dropsondes over the NE Pacific Ocean as part of the Winter Storms Project during the January–March periods of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Abstract Statistical multifractal analysis of airborne and dropsonde observations is used to show that persistence of velocity after molecular collisions breaks the continuous

δ 13C carbon isotopic composition of CO2 in the atmosphere by Lidar [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
A differential absorption lidar (DIAL) has been developed at LMD to measure the variation of stable isotopic composition of CO2, δ 13C, in the atmosphere.

Increasing urban flash flood risk attributable to both climate and development

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
A new event impact attribution methodology that combines convection‐permitting climate model data with flood inundation modelling was used for a five‐hour flash‐flooding event in the suburbs of Leeds in 2014. The results show increased urban flood extent due to both climate change (+16%) and increased urbanisation (+29%).

Continuous-wave differential absorption lidar

open access: yes, 2015
This work proves the feasibility of a novel concept of differential absorption lidar based on the Scheimpflug principle. The range-resolved atmospheric backscattering signal of a laser beam is retrieved by employing a tilted linear sensor with a ...

Atmospheric Mercury Pollution in the Xi’an Area, China, Studied by Differential Absorption Lidar

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
Measurements of the atmospheric concentration of polluting atomic mercury were performed using the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) technique in the Lintong district, about 35 km northeast of Xi’an, the capital of the Shaanxi province, China ...
