Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

Liquid crystal director fields in three-dimensional non-Euclidean geometries

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
This paper investigates nematic liquid crystals in three-dimensional curved space, and determines which director deformation modes are compatible with each possible type of non-Euclidean geometry. Previous work by Sethna et al showed that double twist is

Poincar{é} and Sobolev inequalities for differential forms in Heisenberg groups [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Poincar{\'e} and Sobolev inequalities for differential forms on Heisenberg balls, involving Rumin's differentials, are given. Furthermore, a global homotopy of Rumin's complex which improves differentiability of Rumin forms is provided on any bounded geometry contact manifold.

Effects of cardiac motion on dose distribution during stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation treatment: A simulation and phantom study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Cardiac motion may degrade dose distribution during stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation using the CyberKnife system, a robotic radiosurgery system. This study evaluated the dose distribution changes using a self‐made cardiac dynamic platform that mimics cardiac motion. Methods The cardiac dynamic platform was operated with amplitudes

A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

Invariants in c U p-Geometry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1997
This note describes the construction of c U p-invariant differential operators on statistical manifolds, i.e. of operators canonically associated to a geometry which synthetizes the properties of conformal and projective geometries.

Evaluation of the dose reduction effect of crystalline lens exposure in cone‐beam computed tomography with bismuth eye shield for image‐guided radiation therapy: An anthropomorphic phantom study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the dose‐exposure reduction effect of a crystalline lens with a bismuth eye shield using cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) for head image‐guided radiation therapy. The ocular surface dose of the head phantom (THRA‐1) is defined as a crystalline lens exposure dose and is measured using a radiophotoluminescence ...

Topology Optimization of Lattice Support Structure for Cantilever Beams Fabricated Via Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.
