Differentiators and the geometry of polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2003
AbstractIn 1959, Davis introduced the concept of a differentiator of an operator on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. We prove that every such operator possesses a differentiator. We also use the theory of differentiators to solve several problems in the geometry of polynomials.

Differential geometry and demand function

open access: yesAtti della Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti : Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali
The presented work is devoted to the differential geometric analysis of the demand function. Analysis of the neoclassic approach leads to the introduction of the generalized demand function.

Analytical ruled surfaces and their complete classification

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2020
The aim of the work - to give the possibility to expand mind of designers and architects projecting structures in the form of traditional and non-canonical ruled surfaces.

Enhanced analysis of gating latency in 0.35T MR‐linac through innovative time synchronization of a motion phantom and plastic scintillation detector

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to evaluate how different gantry angles, breathing rates (BPM), cine image speeds, and tracking algorithms affect beam on/off latency and the subsequent impact on target dose for a 0.35T MR‐Linac with a 6 MV FFF beam.

Metric connections in projective differential geometry

open access: yes, 2008
We search for Riemannian metrics whose Levi-Civita connection belongs to a given projective class. Following Sinjukov and Mikes, we show that such metrics correspond precisely to suitably positive solutions of a certain projectively invariant finite-type

The Shapes of Things - A Practical Guide to Differential Geometry and the Shape Derivative

open access: yes, 2015
Many things around us have properties that depend on their shape-for example, the drag characteristics of a rigid body in a flow. This self-contained overview of differential geometry explains how to differentiate a function (in the calculus sense) with ...

Energy dependence of the GAFCHROMIC LD‐V1 in the diagnostic radiographic modalities

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract The GAFCHROMIC LD‐V1 radiochromic film is widely used in dosimetry because it can provide high‐resolution two‐dimensional dose distributions without processing. This study aimed to evaluate the response characteristics at different effective energies, from the low‐energy range of mammography to the high‐energy range of computed tomography. Net

On the design of differential beamformers with arbitrary planar microphone array geometry.

open access: yesJournal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
This letter deals with the problem of differential beamforming with microphone arrays of arbitrary planar geometry. By approximating the beampattern with the Jacobi-Anger expansion, it develops an algorithm that can form any specified frequency-invariant

AAPM medical physics practice guideline 13.a: HDR brachytherapy, part B

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract The goal of this report is to assist the clinical medical physicist in assuring that key quality standards and practice considerations are met to ensure safe, reliable, and reproducible high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT) treatment. This guideline has been developed to provide appropriate minimum standards for such services.

CutFEM: Discretizing geometry and partial differential equations

open access: yes, 2015
We discuss recent advances on robust unfitted finite element methods on cut meshes. These methods are designed to facilitate computations on complex geometries obtained, for example, from computer‐aided design or image data from applied sciences.
