Astronomical Applications of Differential Interferometry

Science, 1972
Intercomparison of radio signals received simultaneously at several sites from several sources with small mutual angular separation provides a powerful astrometric tool. Applications include tracking the Lunar Rover relative to the Lunar Module, determining the moon's libration, measuring winds in Venus's lower atmosphere, mapping Mars radiometrically,

Differential low-coherence interferometry

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
New low coherence interferometric technique for remote comparison of two optical path differences utilizing common path geometry is proposed and demonstrated. The differential profiling of transparent structures by new technique is considered and demonstrated experimentally.

Three-color differential interferometry

Applied Optics, 1997
It is shown that differential interferometry using a Wollaston prism and a three-color laser source is an optical technique that has all the advantages of differential interferometry in polarized white light and of classical monochromatic interferometry.

Airborne differential interferometry: X-band experiments

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
In this work we present the results of an airborne differential interferometry experiment carried out by using the ORBISAR X-band system. Use of a high track measurement accuracy allowed us to fulfill the requirements of Fornaro et al. (2003), where repeat pass phase accuracy has been quantified in terms of position measurement errors.

Ultrasonic wave measurement by differential interferometry

Applied Optics, 1977
The theory and performance of a two beam differential interferometer for measurement of both surface and bulk waves are described. The system is insensitive to small errors (

Double-pulsed time differential holographic interferometry

Applied Optics, 1977
A unique method for double-pulsed holographic interferometry has been developed and employed in a meter-long theta-pinch experiment. Q-switching of two orthogonally polarized ruby laser beams, using the same lasing medium but different laser cavities, allows pulse separations of 0.2-100 microsec.

Focused Laser Differential Interferometry

2021
The focused laser differential interferometer (FLDI) is a non-imaging optical diagnostic that is sensitive to density disturbances. A distinguishing feature is reduced sensitivity away from the focal plane of its beams. The spatial resolution is sub-mm, and the temporal resolution is restricted only by photodetector bandwidth, typically >10 MHz ...

Differential Speckle Interferometry

Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1982
This paper describes an experiment in narrow spectral band speckle interferometry, which uses variations in the spectrum across the astronomical object under study, to obtain information of the object on the millisecond of arc scale. We plan to apply this experiment to the study of spectroscopic double stars, stellar rotation, spectroscopic and ...

Imaging focused laser differential interferometry

Optics Letters
Focused laser differential interferometry (FLDI) is an important diagnostic for measuring density fluctuations in high-speed flows. Currently, however, high dynamic range FLDI is limited to photodiode measurements. In order to spatially resolve multiple locations within complex flows, we present a novel, to the best of our knowledge, refractive-optic ...

Differential interferometry of γ-irradiated optical fibers

Applied Optics, 1980
An interferometric method is discussed which enables changes in refractive index of irradiated optical fibers to be determined. The method was used to determine the changes of step-index fibers irradiated with 1 krad of gamma rays from a (60)Co source.
