Numerical methods for ordinary differential equations with applications to partial differential equations

open access: yes, 1983
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The thesis develops a number of algorithms for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations with applications to partial differential equations.

Composite marginal likelihood estimation of higher‐order diagnostic classification models under high dimensionality

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Although full‐information maximum likelihood (FIML) estimation is widely used for diagnostic classification models (DCMs), its computational efficiency deteriorates sharply in high‐dimensional settings. This scalability challenge is increasingly critical as DCMs are applied to large‐scale assessments, psychological testing and longitudinal ...

The construction of reducible quadrature methods for Volterra integral and integro-differential equations

open access: yes, 1982
A formal relationship between quadrature rules and linear multistep methods for ordinary differential equations is exploited for the generation of quadrature weights. Employing the quadrature rules constructed in this way, step-by-step methods for second

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Semiological features of epilepsy seizures and paroxysmal non‐epileptic events in children: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Pediatric paroxysmal non‐epileptic events (PNEs) are frequently misdiagnosed as epilepsy. We systematically reviewed and synthesized 40 studies, including 3123 video‐EEG monitored pediatric patients. Epileptic seizures in infants (1 month–3 years) typically presented as arrest, while in children and adolescents (1 month–21 years) they manifested as ...

Life Cycle Consumption and Portfolio Choice Under Real Interest Rate Risk

open access: yesFinancial Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We set up a life cycle model with real interest rate risk to demonstrate that real interest rates have implications for optimal household consumption and investments. Lower interest rates lead to higher optimal stock investments and lower consumption.

Assessment and Correction of Non‐Linearity Effects for In Situ Rb‐Sr Geochronology Applied to High 87Rb/86Sr Mica

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points Measurement of 86Sr at count rates < 1500 cps can result in statistical bias. Non‐linear signals in analogue detection mode (e.g., Rb) present a challenge for accurately dating high 87Rb/86Sr mica (> 1000). Accounting for these considerations, high 87Rb/86Sr mica are dated here with accuracies of ∼ 1%.

Generalized Differential Quadrature and Its Application. G.U. Aero Report 9117 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The technique of differential quadrature (DQ) for the solution of a partial differential equation is extended and generalized in this paper. The general formulation for determining the weighting coefficients of the first order derivative is obtained. A
