A Novel On-chip Three-dimensional Micromachined Calorimeter with Fully Enclosed and Suspended Thin-film Chamber for Thermal Characterization of Liquid Samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A microfabricated calorimeter (μ-calorimeter) with an enclosed reaction chamber is presented. The 3D micromachined reaction chamber is capable of analyzing liquid samples with volume of 200 nl. The thin film low-stress silicon nitride membrane is used to

Evaluating Dielectric Properties for Semicrystalline Thermoplastics to Analyze the Thermal and Rheological Properties in Laser‐Based Powder Bed Fusion of Plastics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study aims to establish a link between the dielectric properties of polyamide 12 (PA12) and its thermal and rheological properties using dielectric analysis (DEA). A standardized methodology is introduced to determine melting and crystallization temperatures.

Differential scanning calorimetry of chicken erythrocyte nuclei [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1992
Investigation of structural features of native chromatin requires the use of intact nuclei, a turbid material which cannot be analyzed by optical methods. Differential scanning calorimetry does not require optically clear samples and has been proved by a number of authors to be a powerful tool in this field of study.

Investigation of Iron‐Aluminide‐Like Phase Composition in Complex Concentrated Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the phase composition and quantitative morphology analysis of precipitation‐hardened Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 complex‐concentrated alloy. The precipitates are shown to have a high coherency. Morphology transition between sphere, cuboidal, and elongated morphology is observed. Finally, the overaging behavior is captured using microhardness.

Crystallization kinetics of equimolar liquid crystalline mixture and its components [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences 2024, 14(24), 11701
The new equimolar mixture comprises liquid crystalline compounds MHPOBC and partially fluorinated 3F2HPhF6. The phase sequence of the mixture is determined by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and broadband dielectric spectroscopy.

Evolution of structural (α) relaxation-time anomalies in GexSe1-x Chalcogenide glasses [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research Express 2, 055201 (2015), 2015
We examine enthalpy relaxation across the chalcogenide glass series GexSe1-x, prepared over close-by compositions using conventional melt-quenching technique. We estimate the timescale {\tau}(Tg) characterizing enthalpic relaxation near the kinetic glass transition temperature, using the non-reversing heat-flow data obtained from MDSC (modulated ...

Crystalline polyimides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Aromatic crystalline polyimides are disclosed that are synthesized from polyamide-acid and when heated to 200 C to 300 C become cyclized to afford an opaque polymer.

Ice Premelting during Differential Scanning Calorimetry [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1999
Premelting at the surface of ice crystals is caused by factors such as temperature, radius of curvature, and solute composition. When polycrystalline ice samples are warmed from well below the equilibrium melting point, surface melting may begin at temperatures as low as -15 degrees C.

Toughness of Confined Auxetic Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Auxetic (negative Poisson's ratio) materials offer benefits such as impact mitigation, thermal insulation, vibration damping, and reduced shear strain, although their fracture mechanics are largely unexplored. This study investigates damage initiation and propagation in confined re‐entrant auxetic foams from polyurethane via experimental ...

Entropy production in temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (2008) 1, 2008
The non-equilibrium process due to irreversible heat exchanges occurring during a temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry experiment is investigated in detail. This enables us to define an experimental frequency dependent complex heat capacity from this calorimetric method. The physical meaning of this dynamic heat capacity is discussed.
