The effects of exogenous lipid on THP-1 cells : an in vitro model of airway aspiration? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chronic inflammatory diseases of the airways are associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) and aspiration events. The observation of lipid laden macrophages (LLM) within the airway may indicate aspiration secondary to GOR.

Melanocytic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy: A plethora of airway nightmares!

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology
Melanocytic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) is a rare, benign neoplasm involving the jaw. It is characterized by a high rate of recurrence and locally aggressive enlargement. This condition often leads to facial asymmetry and difficulty in airway

Endotracheal intubation under local anesthesia and sedation in an infant with difficult airway

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2012
Management of the difficult airway in an infant is a challenge for the anesthesiologist. A 10-month-old infant presented to an otolaryngologist with nasopharyngeal mass since birth, which had increased rapidly in size in the last 1 month and was hanging ...

Sleep Alters the Velocity of Physiological Brain Pulsations in Humans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep alters I/CSF oscillatory flow, driven by increased respiratory (29%) and vasomotor pulsation (21%) velocities, while cardiovascular pulsations decreased by (22%). Velocity is quantified using optical flow analysis of MREG data. Spectral power increases alongside these pulsations (spatial correlation, r = 0.35 and r = 0.39, respectively ...

Genetic Diagnosis and Discovery Enabled by Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that large language models (LLMs) can facilitate genetic diagnosis and discovery. LLMs were used to solve four types of genetic problems of sequentially increased complexity. An LLM‐based pipeline could analyze genetic variants in the genomic sequences of human hearing loss or rare genetic disease patients and assist in identifying ...

Quality Improvement on the Long-term Care Ventilator Unit: Interventions to Increase Patient Safety and Prevent Patient Harm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Tracheostomy patients are susceptible to life-threatening emergencies when their airways are compromised. Epidemiologic data suggests that 3.2% to 30% of tracheostomy patents have a complication. The long-term care ventilator unit (LTCVU) is

Self-assembling nanoparticles containing dexamethasone as a novel therapy in allergic airways inflammation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nanocarriers can deliver a wide variety of drugs, target them to sites of interest, and protect them from degradation and inactivation by the body. They have the capacity to improve drug action and decrease undesirable systemic effects.

Cascade‐Responsive MXene@Cu‐MOF Heterostructure Integrates Antioxidant Activity, Infection Control, and Vascularization for Tracheal Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cascade‐responsive MXene@Cu‐MOF/GelMA hydrogel is engineered as a “skeleton–backpack” platform for extensive tracheal repair. The MXene framework scavenges postoperative ROS and converts NIR light into mild hyperthermia, while the Cu‐MOF component provides pH/NIR‐responsive Cu2+ dosing for infection control, angiogenesis, and chondrogenesis.
