It is shown that the characteristic wave numbers for which the simple source formulation of acoustic diffraction problems fails can be obtained directly by use of the model’s integral equation. Characteristic wave numbers for diffraction by a rigid cylinder and by a rigid sphere are determined.

The Green's functions of grounded magnetodielectric slabs with LE, LM waves' expansion and layered circular cylinder with E, H waves' expansion are used for surface and space waves analysis. Traditional magnetodielectrics and double negative materials are under consideration.
