Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) may be used as a single optical component with dedicated functionality (e.g. focusing), or as one of the elements in complex hybrid optical systems to reduce the number of the elements and improve imaging quality. It is desirable to cover DOE’s

Large bandwidth, highly efficient optical gratings through high index materials [PDF]
We analyze the diffraction characteristics of dielectric gratings that feature a high index grating layer, and devise, through rigorous numerical calculations, large bandwidth, highly efficient, high dispersion dielectric gratings in reflection ...

Comparative analysis of the Fresnel lens and the kinoform lens [PDF]
Based on a unified approach in the ray approximation, the focusing properties of Fresnel lenses and kinoform lenses are considered and compared. Particular attention is paid to the energy efficiency, chromatic focal shift and resolving power of these ...

Diffraction efficiency calculations of polarization diffraction gratings with surface relief [PDF]
In this paper, we evaluate the optical response of a stack of two diffraction gratings of equal one-dimensional periodicity. The first one is a surface-relief grating structure; the second, a volume polarization grating. This model is based on our experimental results from polarization holographic recordings in azopolymer films.

Band-edge-induced Bragg diffraction in two-dimensional photonic crystals [PDF]
Two-dimensional photonic crystals composed of two orthogonal volume diffraction gratings have been photogenerated in photopolymers. When the read beam is set at the Bragg angle, the diffraction efficiency of the transmission grating is strongly enhanced ...

Electromagnetically Induced Grating of Surface Polaritons via Coherent Population Oscillation
We propose a scheme to study the electromagnetically induced grating (EIG) of surface polaritons (SPs) in a negative index metamaterial/rare-earth-ion-doped crystal interface waveguide system, based on coherent population oscillation (CPO) modulating by ...
