Diffusion-weighted MRI in vascular dementia

Neurology, 2000
To examine the ability of diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) to detect ongoing cerebral ischemia in patients with vascular dementia (VaD).VaD due to small-vessel disease results from the cumulative impact of recurrent cerebral ischemia. Cerebral ischemia may produce clinical manifestations, producing the "stepwise" decline characteristic of VaD. Conventional

Diffusion-Weighted MRI

2003
Although conventional T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is sensitive for the detection of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions, it is not without important limitations. First, MRI lacks specificity with regard to the heterogeneous pathological substrates of individual lesions, and in consequence does not allow tissue damage to be quantified ...

Diffusion-weighted MRI in cortical ischaemia

Neuroradiology, 2004
We carried out MRI on 16 male and three female comatose patients, aged 2 days to 79 years, with suspected cortical ischaemia referred from our intensive care units. Using a head coil, and following standard imaging, including coronal fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery images, we performed diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) using a whole-brain multislice

Fiber Enhancement in Diffusion-Weighted MRI

2012
Diffusion-Weighted MRI (DW-MRI) measures local water diffusion in biological tissue, which reflects the underlying fiber structure. In order to enhance the fiber structure in the DW-MRI data we consider both (convection-)diffusions and Hamilton-Jacobi equations (erosions) on the space \mathbbR3 \rtimes S2Unknown control sequence '\rtimes' of 3D ...

Diffusion-weighted MRI of the transplanted liver

Clinical Radiology, 2011
To assess the value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in evaluating parenchymal disorders following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT).This institutional review board-approved, retrospective study measured the hepatic apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) in patients following OLT.

Diffusion-weighted MRI in shaken baby syndrome

Pediatric Radiology, 2003
We present the characteristic CT and MRI findings of a 2-month-old girl with shaken baby syndrome. Diffusion-weighted MR imaging performed 8 days after the insult established the presence of injury to the white matter in the corpus callosum and subcortical white matter in the temporo-occipito-parietal region.

Diffusion weighted MRI in ovarian cancer

Current Opinion in Oncology, 2014
The role of diffusion weighted MRI (DW-MRI) in ovarian cancer management has been the focus of recent research. In this article, the main research interests and the current and future clinical applications of DW-MRI in ovarian cancer will be discussed. For characterization of complex adnexal masses, the absence of residual signal intensity on high b ...

The physical basis of diffusion-weighted MRI

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 2001
Diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the only technique that permits a non-invasive in vivo assessment of water molecular diffusion, which reflects tissue configuration at a microscopic level. Therefore, this technique appears to be particularly useful in monitoring brain abnormalities.

Diffusion-weighted MRI of soft tissue tumours

European Radiology, 2004
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of a multi-shot spin-echo echo-planar (SE-EPI) diffusion-weighted sequence in the diagnostic work-up of soft tissue tumours. There were 29 patients, 16 with a benign lesion and 13 with a sarcoma. Four of the sarcomas were examined both before and after radiation therapy.
