Neurotoxic amyloid β‐peptide and tau produce cytokine‐like effects on PMCA in glioblastoma cell lines, enhancing its activity and isoforms expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Two biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ) and tau, induce the transformation of U‐251 and other glioblastoma cell lines into neurotoxic A1‐like reactive astrocytes. This transformation is produced by cytokines and is followed by upregulation of PMCA activity and isoform expression, and is closely associated with inflammation, as ...

Conceptual Design and Parametric Optimization of a New Multileveled Horsetail Structure for Bicycle Helmets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
This study aims to explore the feasibility of using a structure inspired by the features of horsetail and human spine as the potential helmet liner, targeting at mitigation of acceleration‐induced injuries. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of individual geometrical variables in the design, indicating its capability to reduce ...

Granulometric Analysis on Remote Sensing Images: Application to Mapping Retrospective Changes in the Sahelian Ligneous Cover

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2016
This paper illustrates how the use of mathematical morphology can be a powerful tool for the mapping of ligneous cover in semi-arid lands. Ligneous cover plays a fundamental role in Sahel semi-arid regions since this resource is vital to the resilience ...

On physical diffusion and stochastic diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Science, 98 (1), 23-26, January 10, 2010, 2010
Although the same mathematical expression is used to describe physical diffusion and stochastic diffusion, there are intrinsic similarities and differences in their nature. A comparative study shows that characteristic terms of physical and stochastic diffusion cannot be placed exactly in one-to-one correspondence.

Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Tempered Fractional Equations for Quantum Transport in Mesoscopic One-Dimensional Systems with Fractal Disorder

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2019
New aspects of electron transport in quantum wires with Lévy-type disorder are described. We study the weak scattering and the incoherent sequential tunneling in one-dimensional quantum systems characterized by a tempered Lévy stable ...

Estimation of intrinsic diffusion coefficients in a pseudo-binary diffusion couple [PDF]

open access: yesScripta Materialia 103 (2015) 18-21, 2015
Major drawback of studying diffusion in multi-component systems is the lack of suitable techniques to estimate the diffusion parameters. In this study, a generalized treatment to determine the intrinsic diffusion coefficients in multi-component systems is developed utilizing the concept of pseudo-binary approach.

Complex diffusion mechanism of Zn in InP [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Implantation and diffusion of Zn dopant into bulk InP:S were performed. Zn concentration profiles were investigated by secondary ion mass spectrometry and capacitance-voltage method. We find that thermodynamic conditions of annealing influence diffusion mechanism of Zn atoms.

Deviation from normative brain development is associated with symptom severity in autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesMolecular Autism, 2019
Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition. The degree to which the brain development in ASD deviates from typical brain development, and how this deviation relates to observed behavioral outcomes at the ...
