Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Investigating effects from restricted diffusion in multi-component diffusion data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We have investigated model systems in which effects from non-Gaussian restricted diffusion could be separated from effects caused by multiple diffusion coefficients. We applied various models to analyze the experimental data.

Cyclic Voltammetry Part 2: Surface Adsorption, Electric Double Layer, and Diffusion Layer

open access: yesElectrochemistry, 2022
This paper “Part 2: Surface Adsorption, Electric Double Layer, and Diffusion Layer” is the applicational part and is a continuation of “Part 1: Fundamentals” (https://doi.org/10.5796/electrochemistry.22-66082). This part explains the principles of cyclic

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Using Diffusion-Diffusion Exchange Spectroscopy to observe diffusion exchange in yeast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The permeability of cell membranes varies significantly across both healthy and diseased tissue, and changes in cell membrane permeability can occur during treatment response in tumours.

Tribological Properties of Nitrided Steels Lubricated with Fully Formulated Oils in Boundary Lubrication Condition

open access: yesTribology Online, 2018
Nitriding is one of the most popular heat treatments widely used in hydraulic sliding parts of automotive or construction machinery components. Since the nitrided steels shows great wear resistance due to its high hardness, it is widely applied to ...

Rendering Layered Materials with Diffuse Interfaces

open access: yesProceedings of the ACM on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, 2022
In this work, we introduce a novel method to render, in real-time, Lambertian surfaces with a rough dieletric coating. We show that the appearance of such configurations is faithfully represented with two microfacet lobes accounting for direct and indirect interactions respectively.
