Diffusion-MRI in neurodegenerative disorders
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2015The ability to image the whole brain through ever more subtle and specific methods/contrasts has come to play a key role in understanding the basis of brain abnormalities in several diseases. In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), "diffusion" (i.e. the random, thermally-induced displacements of water molecules over time) represents an extraordinarily ...

From diffusion‐weighted MRI to anomalous diffusion imaging
Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2008AbstractWe present a novel interpretation of non‐monoexponential diffusion‐weighted signal decay with b‐value in terms of the theory of anomalous diffusion. Anomalous diffusion is the theory of diffusing particles in environments that are not locally homogeneous, such as brain tissue.

These Proceedings of the 2015 MICCAI Workshop "Computational Diffusion MRI" offer a snapshot of the current state of the art on a broad range of topics within the highly active and growing field of diffusion MRI. The topics vary from fundamental theoretical work on mathematical modeling, to the development and evaluation of robust algorithms, new ...

Fundamentals of diffusion MRI physics
NMR in Biomedicine, 2017Diffusion MRI is commonly considered the “engine” for probing the cellular structure of living biological tissues. The difficulty of this task is threefold. First, in structurally heterogeneous media, diffusion is related to structure in quite a complicated way.

Diffuse unilateral MRI breast entities
Clinical ImagingMany benign and malignant breast entities can present with diffuse unilateral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. The unilateral breast findings can be broken down into three broad categories including asymmetric diffuse masses/non-mass enhancement (NME), diffuse unilateral skin thickening, and diffuse asymmetric background enhancement. Although

The myocardial microstructure and three-dimensional architecture govern the electrical propagation and mechanical function of the heart. Diffusion MRI is a unique method for microstructural characterization of the whole heart, both in vivo and ex vivo.

Diffusion MRI Outside the Brain
2019This manuscript provides an overview of recent developments in Diffusion-Weighted Imaging (DWI) outside the brain, focusing on liver, breast, prostate, muskuloskeletal (MSK) and cardiac applications. A general introduction to cross-cutting acquisition and image processing challenges is first provided. These often include short \(T_2\) relaxation times,

Diffusion MRI findings in phenylketonuria
European Radiology, 2003Two patients with phenylketonuria were studied who were under dietary control since infancy, and who were mentally normal. Diffusion MRI was obtained using a spin-echo, echo-planar sequence with a gradient strength of 30 mT/m at 1.5 T. A trace sequence (TR=5700 ms, and TE=139 ms) was used, acquired in 22 s.

MRI and Diffusion MRI in nonparaneoplastic limbic encephalitis
Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics, 2002This paper reports an 65-year-old woman with nonparaneoplastic limbic encephalitis. On MRI and diffusion MRI, diffuse and symmetrical, bilateral high-signal lesions were evident in the medial temporal lobes. The affected areas were hyperintense on b= 1000 s/mm(2) (heavily diffusion-weighted or true diffusion) images, a pattern similar to cytotoxic ...
