Diflubenzuron: Intestinal absorption and metabolism in the rat

The effects of diflubenzuron on a complex laboratory stream community

Effects were assessed on the total biological community in complex laboratory streams caused by continuous exposure to diflubenzuron (1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(2,6-difluorobenzoyl) urea). The insect fauna suffered direct toxic effects at concentrations of 1.0 microgram/L and greater.

Abstract[14C]Diflubenzuron is readily degraded in various agricultural soils and in hydro‐soil; 50% of the applied dose of 1 mg kg−1 was metabolised in 2 days or less. The chief products of hydrolysis were identified as 4‐chlorophenylurea and 2, 6‐difluorobenzoic acid. A part of the radioactivity, increasing with incubation time, could not be extracted.

Effects of Diflubenzuron on Benthic Macroinvertebrates in Littoral Enclosures

Two applications of the insect growth regulator diflubenzuron were made to replicate littoral enclosures at nominal concentrations of 0.7, 2.5, 7.0, and 30 &mgr;g/L. Assessment of the effects of this insecticide on benthic macroinvertebrate community structure was accomplished by measuring changes in abundance and taxonomic richness.
