Seed co‐occurrence caused by shared frugivores leaves a long‐lasting signal in the spatial co‐occurrence among plants

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 9, September 2026.
Frugivorous animals are intrinsically involved in plant community dynamics, by dispersing seeds of fleshy‐fruited plants and influencing their spatial co‐occurrence. Particularly, generalist avian frugivores forage on them, co‐dispersing and co‐disseminating their seeds.

Transition Metal Chalcogenides: Perspectives on Their Applications for Nitrate Reduction

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
This review paper reports the syntheses, properties, and applications of TMCs for electrochemical reduction of nitrate to ammonia. Various studies revealed that the conversion of nitrate to ammonia is principally the electrocatalytic hydrogenation of nitrate and the rate and yield of ammonia is competitively challenged by hydrogen evolution reaction ...

Current Cell/Organoid and Animal Models for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 241-259, September 2026.
Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease with limited therapeutic options and a marked risk of progression to biliary fibrosis, cirrhosis, and malignancy. Progress in PSC research has been hindered by the lack of models that faithfully recapitulate the complex biliary microenvironment and disease heterogeneity ...

Estimating Mortality Rates of Digestive Tract Cancers in Appalachia

open access: yes
Rural areas often experience higher incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer and face disparities in preventative and cancer care. Previous research has found that the Appalachian region has a general cancer mortality rate that is greater than the ...

Transitioning from Transcriptomics to Proteomics: Enhancing Mechanistic Accuracy in PBPK Modeling via Absolute Protein Abundances

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Reliable physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling depends on tissue‐specific expression profiles that reflect protein activities governing drug disposition. In PK‐Sim, existing expression databases rely on transcriptomics data. However, mRNA levels often exhibit limited correlation with protein abundance, frequently necessitating ...

mcr‐Mediated Colistin Resistance in Escherichia coli: A One Health Review of Reported Prevalence Across Human, Animal, Food, and Environmental Sectors

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
This One Health review maps the global prevalence of mcr‐mediated colistin resistance in Escherichia coli across human, animal, food, and environmental sectors. By tracking datasets across diverse geographic regions, the study highlights critical resistance hotspots, emphasizing the urgent need for integrated cross‐sectoral surveillance to limit global

Technologies for engineering repetitive DNA

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 14, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Repetitive DNA, a fundamental architectural element of genomes, is widespread across organisms and comprises about 54% of the human genome. With advances in long‐read sequencing and bioinformatics approaches, highly repetitive sequences can now be characterized in depth.
