Beyond competence: digital literacies as knowledge practices, and implications for learner development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Our interest in studying digital literacies arises from what we perceive as a failure to develop students' capacities to learn deeply in a technology-rich environment. The trends towards networked communities and digital citizenship, as well as workplace

Contingency and Satisfaction under Digital Capitalism [PDF]

open access: yesStream: Interdisciplinary Journal of Communication, 2016
Explorations into today's labour context reveal a wide schism between those workers who live under conditions of precarity and contingency and those who seem to be living the dream - and not only in terms of wages. The standardized work day and Taylorized division of labour that characterized most of the industrial era has transitioned, at least in ...

Chemically Engineered L. reuteri Delivering αPD‐L1 and Gallium Ions via Metal‐Phenolic Networks Potentiate Anti‐Tumor Immunity and Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multifaceted chemical strategy, integrating bacterial tropism, metal‐ion interference therapy, and immunotherapy, resulted in significant tumor regression in murine models. A pioneering paradigm for the design of biohybrid materials was established, highlighting how sophisticated chemical engineering of living systems can unlock new avenues for ...

Enzyme‐Activated MRI for In Vivo Glucose Imaging via a Biodegradable Chromium Nanoprobe

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Enzyme‐activated MRI (eaMRI) using a biodegradable CrGOx@Lip nanoprobe enables glucose‐specific imaging in vivo. GOx catalyzes glucose oxidation, triggering in situ formation of paramagnetic chromium gluconate and amplifying T1. This radiation‐free strategy maps tumor glucose uptake via the Warburg‐effect, quantifies hepatic glucose accumulation in ...

Synergistic Pyro‐Phototronics and Structural Anisotropy in CsAg2I3/GaN Heterostructures for High‐Performance Polarization‐Sensitive UV Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The development of polarization‐sensitive ultraviolet photodetectors is limited by poor heterojunction quality and low polarization sensitivity. This study integrates synthesized CsAg2I3 single crystals with intrinsic non‐centrosymmetry into van der Waals heterojunction devices, demonstrating pronounced pyro‐phototronic effect.

Digital Capitalism and Coal Mine Workers

open access: yestripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique. Open Access Journal for a Global Sustainable Information Society, 2020
One hundred and seventy-five years ago, in his book titled The Condition of the Working Class in England, Engels wrote about the ways in which the mine workers were exploited within the capitalist system. Classical economists believed that with the improvements in technology, capitalism would create egalitarian employment opportunities for everyone. In

Soft and Adhesive Cardiac Patch for Electrophysiological and Contraction Measurement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed an epicardial electronic patch with a modulus similar to that of the heart (approximately 65kPa), which can collect stable electrocardiogram signals and myocardial contractility on the surface of a dynamically beating heart. This is attributed to the hydrogen bond interaction formed between the amino and catechol groups in the ...
