Using inexpensive integrated circuits, a digital timer-controller can be constructed which will provide control pulses after preset times from the start of a sequence, and which is also capable of providing pulses at a constant preset rate. The basic clock rate, 1 s is derived directly from the power line frequency, with resultant high accuracy.

Digitally controlled oscillator
IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 1989A monolithic integrated digitally controlled oscillator circuit is discussed. The oscillator has an output frequency range from 19.07 Hz to more than 20 MHz with a resolution of 19.07 Hz. It is fully linear over the complete control range with respect to the digital control word, has the long-term stability of a quartz oscillator, and the output clock ...

A digitally controlled PLL for digital SOCs
Proceedings of the 2003 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003. ISCAS '03., 2003A fully integrated digitally controlled PLL used as a clock multiplying circuit is designed and fabricated. The PLL has no off-chip components and it is made from standard cells found in most digital standard cell libraries. It is therefore portable between processes as an IP-block.

A digitally controlled DC drive
Proceedings of MELECON '94. Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2002An experimental version of a digitally controlled DC drive is presented in the paper. The four quadrant chopper, the auxiliary circuits, interface and control circuits have been designed and built in the laboratory. The chopper and drive control is performed by an eight-bit general purpose low cost microprocessor, in which the control programs have ...

Publisher Summary A control system consists of two main parts. One is the object being controlled, often referred to as the plant, and the other is the controller. With the plant, it is possible to identify certain outputs, which are variables to be controlled and certain control inputs, which are variables to be manipulated, so as to achieve the ...

A Digital Dosemeter and Controller
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1964An integrating dosemeter system is described which terminates an X-ray treatment exposure after a pre-set dose of radiation, as measured by an ionization chamber placed between the tube and the patient. Details of the construction of an aluminium ionization chamber, which has proved more reliable than chambers made of Perspex, are given.

Implementation of digital controllers—A survey
Automatica, 1987The paper is an excellent review of different aspects of implementation of digital controllers. The first part of the paper is a survey of common types of digital controllers and their structures. The important aspect of computational delay is discussed.

Move Architecture in Digital Controllers
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1980The conditional MOVE processor (CMOVE) has been proposed for replacement of logic table driven sequencers like traffic light controllers and microcomputer I/O processors, in order to take better advantage of hardware-software tradeoffs. Herein the architecture of the CMOVE processor is sketched, and its application to traditional numerical control ...

Controlling Overload in a Digital System
SIAM Journal on Algebraic Discrete Methods, 1980Service requests arrive to an input buffer in a digital system. The buffer capacity and work discipline are to be chosen such that the maximum rate at which tasks are processed through the buffer while still meeting delay criteria is not above some maximum level. This input buffer is intended to be a control valve to prevent internal system overload. A
