The digital generalization principle of digital elevation model

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
This paper briefly is based on the discussion of three fundamental characteristics of the ground (elevation accuracy, validity of elevation order, and the preservation of elevation features) and the concept of the model, then analyses major theoretical and practical shortcomings of the DEM generated in the mechanical model in depth, finally we proposes

Digital elevation models and TIN algorithms

1997
This survey has explained a number of concepts on terrains, and some algorithms for various computations. The emphasis has been on TIN algorithms, because the TIN model for terrains is more elegant than the grid and contour line models. A common argument to use grids is the simplicity of the algorithms.

The “M” in digital elevation models

Cartography and Geographic Information Science, 2015
The “M” in digital elevation models (DEM) stands for model, which literally means “a schematic description of a system, theory, or phenomenon that accounts for its known or inferred properties and may be used for further study of its characteristics.” A DEM fulfills the requirement of “a schematic description” of terrain.

Geomorphometric processing of digital elevation models

Computers & Geosciences, 1987
Abstract The general system of geomorphometry is composed of elevation, derivatives of elevation at a point, and moments of the distribution of elevation over some area. All of the point measures in this system can be obtained by computer processing of a digital elevation model (DEM), and they can be used as input to the analysis and classification ...

Drainage Catchment Digital Elevation Models Flyer

Geoscience Australia has developed an automated mosaicking process which takes open elevation data available in the Elvis Elevation and Depth system (Elvis) and automatically combines it to produce a single Digital Elevation Model (DEM). This flyer provides information on the project.
