The development of effective methods for producing digital chest radiographs is essential if the totally digital radiology department of the future is to evolve. Digital radiography of the chest is now possible with a variety of techniques. The most promising approach currently in clinical use involves the use of large-area detectors composed of ...

A watermark for digital images
Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002The growth of networked multimedia systems has magnified the need for image copyright protection. One approach used to address this problem is to add an invisible structure to an image that can be used to seal or mark it. These structures are known as digital watermarks. We describe two techniques for the invisible marking of images.

Image processing or digital image manipulation is one of the greatest advantages of digital radiography (DR). Preprocessing depends on the modality and corrects for system irregularities such as differential light detection efficiency, dead pixels, or dark noise. Processing is manipulation of the raw data just after acquisition.

Although most orthodontists can rely on their orthodontic image software, those who have the need to go beyond just the monitor display of the images will need to get behind the scenes. Understanding a little of what makes up digital images and how to manipulate the variables will enable them to get optimum image quality as well as conserve on time ...

A previous two-part article by Simon Brown described the acquisition, editing, compression and initial storage of digital images taken in the clinical studio. Due to the higher-than-expected demand for this clinical service, additional factors had to be considered when dealing with large numbers of images.

Digitization of Ultrasonic Images
Radiology, 1970Abstract The authors describe a method for digitizing diagnostic ultrasonic data using a system originally constructed for use with radioisotope scan data. A commercial ultrasonic unit drives the transducer and amplifies the preliminary echo signal. The output signals from the ultrasonic unit are fed to a programmable digital logic interface coupled to

Most printers and some display devices are bilevel (black or white) and therefore not capable of reproducing continuous tone pictures. Digital halftoning algorithms transform digital gray scale images into bilevel ones which give the appearance of containing various shades of gray.
