Blubber Cellular Integrity Through Decomposition and Its Implication for Histological Applications: A Study of Stranded Stock A Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae)

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Marine mammal strandings can provide unique and valuable insights into individual and population health, ranging from infectious diseases to anthropogenic threats. However, the level of decomposition of carcasses can interfere with the assessment of important indicators, such as an individual's nutritional status.

A Personalised and Gamified Digital Decision Aid for Colorectal Cancer Screening: A Randomised Controlled Pilot Study

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of tumour‐related mortality worldwide, accounting for approximately 903,000 deaths annually. Despite the proven effectiveness of population‐based screening in reducing mortality, participation rates remain suboptimal, hindered by cognitive, psychological, and socioeconomic barriers.

Competent Non‐Native Alternative Host Reduces Infection Success in a Generalist Parasite

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
In this study, we experimentally assessed how the addition of a non‐native alternative host affects the infection success of the larval generalist trematode, Diplostomum pseudospathaceum, in fish intermediate hosts. Our results demonstrate that the presence of alternative hosts, especially the non‐native ones, can reduce parasite transmission through ...
